Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Less than one year of healthcare experience is required.
  • At least six months of staffing experience is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, patient care needs, and the role of the interprofessional team is required.
  • The ability to complete delegated tasks within the scope of the role is required.
  • Knowledge of people with diverse backgrounds and the ability to convey respect and connect effectively is required.
  • Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools, and techniques, including accurately transmitting, receiving, and interpreting ideas, information, and needs, is required.
  • The ability to work all shifts as needed is required.
  • The ability to work 24 total hours every six weeks on weekend shifts is required.
  • The ability to lift and carry 25 pounds, sit and stand frequently, and use a keyboard frequently is required; patient-care providers may also need to kneel, bend, squat, and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
Responsibilities
  • Interact with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistently with Jefferson's values.
  • Recognize patients and their families or designated care partners while providing safe, compassionate, and coordinated care based on personal preferences, priorities, needs, cultural beliefs, and values.
  • Communicate with and support the interprofessional team and designated care partners.
  • Adjust nursing staff work schedules in accordance with established contracts, policies, and procedures for approval by the unit Nurse Manager or Nursing Supervisor.
  • Review and validate projected census in the scheduling system to identify potential staffing shortages and surpluses for each unit or department for upcoming shifts.
  • Communicate with charge nurses, unit managers, and/or the Nursing Supervisor to assess and confirm staffing needs for upcoming shifts.
  • Develop staffing proposals for review by the Nursing Supervisor on off shifts using acuity, census, and available-staff information.
  • Document staffing information with detail and accuracy.
  • Escalate staffing issues according to the established departmental process.
  • Manage staff calls related to absence notifications for scheduled shifts, convey the information to the Nursing Supervisor or Nurse Manager, and document it in the scheduling system.
  • Communicate staffing changes to the Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, or Nursing Supervisor in a timely manner verbally or by text page.
  • Work with the unit Nurse Manager or Nursing Supervisor to determine staffing needs for upcoming shifts.
  • Serve as a primary end user and system expert for scheduling software, including participating in its development, testing, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Recommend continuous education and process-improvement initiatives related to office workflows and employee care.
  • Participate on project committees and in staff meetings.
  • Participate in training and orientation of new staff.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to peers as appropriate.
  • Answer telephone calls using the agreed protocol, forward calls as appropriate, take accurate messages, and return voicemail messages within the departmental timeframe.
