About the job

Requirements
  • You have initial experience in Tier 1 or Tier 2 consulting, high-growth startups (ideally in operations or process optimization), or project management, and a completed degree in a relevant area.
  • You have experience or a strong interest in data analysis, automation, and artificial intelligence or large language model agents, such as Python, application programming interfaces, and handling larger datasets.
  • You have strong numerical and data understanding and enjoy systematically investigating data-quality problems using data.
  • Experience in the energy industry or market communication, including market communication, metering operations, tenant electricity, or balancing, is desirable; alternatively, you are clearly willing to learn these areas quickly.
  • You work in a structured and conscientious manner and verify that completed work is substantively correct.
  • You take ownership of an area rather than only processing tasks, and aim to develop your full potential in it.
  • You are intentionally seeking a fast-paced, founder-adjacent environment where you can take responsibility, build structures, and actively contribute to growth.
  • You are based in Berlin or willing to relocate.
  • You speak German and English fluently.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze meter readings, meter register values, and dispatch jobs for patterns, anomalies, and recurring causes of errors.
  • Translate analysis into artificial intelligence agents that independently diagnose errors and suggest or implement solutions.
  • Act as the functional driver of the metering operations application by identifying missing features from day-to-day operations, specifying them, and developing them into the product.
  • Bring projects to billing readiness each month by correcting missing or implausible readings, creating substitute values using reference profiles, masking values, and recalculating them.
  • Create dispatch jobs, monitor their status, and validate data after each fix.
  • Work daily in partner applications and the internal metering operations application, following standard metering operations processes.
  • Own all energy-data tickets for internal project and billing teams and external network operators, suppliers, and transmission system operators, from intake and prioritization through resolution; serve as the escalation point for complex cases.
  • Monitor metering-operations mailboxes, assign market-partner messages to the correct cases, and ensure deadline-critical communications are not missed.
  • Train interns and working students in processes, tools, and the metering-operations handbook, support them until they work independently, and keep documentation current.
Desired Qualifications
  • Company equity is offered as part of compensation.
  • A technology budget of €2,000 is provided.

About the company

VREY is a Berlin PropTech company that helps landlords enable solar power for multi-family buildings. It handles planning, installing photovoltaic systems, and the operational setup, including a digital platform that automates legally compliant billing to tenants. As a metering point operator (wMSB), it also manages contracts with other energy providers, removing the supplier obligation from landlords and allowing tenants to buy solar energy directly (potentially lowering bills by up to 20%). Its goal is to scale communal solar use, support building decarbonization, and increase property value through tenant-accessible clean energy.

What believers are saying

  • VREY closed a €3.3 million seed round on April 23, 2026.
  • VREY reported a three-digit project pipeline across all 16 German federal states.
  • Germany's §42b framework reduces landlord supplier obligations, expanding VREY's addressable market.

What critics are saying

  • metergrid raised €10 million in January 2026, crushing VREY's financing disadvantage.
  • §42b EnWG still excludes subsidies, squeezing VREY margins and slowing landlord adoption.
  • If tenant churn or project delays hit, VREY's 20-person team burns seed capital fast.

What makes VREY unique

  • RE Joule GmbH pairs certified smart metering with automated billing for §42b EnWG.
  • VREY targets Germany's underserved multi-family solar market, not single-family rooftop installs.
  • Founders Julius Pahmeier and Cedric Jaeger launched VREY in Berlin in 2024.

VREY raises $3.7M to bring solar power to urban multi-family buildings

Berlin-based startup VREY has secured €3.3 million in seed financing to scale its solar power solutions for multi-family homes. The company specialises in bringing photovoltaic systems directly to urban residential buildings. VREY is already active in over 200 buildings, demonstrating early traction in the multi-family housing sector. The funding will support the company's expansion efforts as it works to increase solar power adoption in urban residential properties. The investment highlights growing interest in decentralised renewable energy solutions for apartment buildings, where traditional solar installations have historically been more challenging to implement compared to single-family homes.
