About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and 8 or more years of experience in product, service, or program management or software development, or equivalent experience.
  • Pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
  • Experience leading technical platform, API, search, data, developer, SaaS, or PaaS products from product definition through delivery, production adoption, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience leading through influence across organizational boundaries, delegating or coordinating work and dependencies across teams while maintaining accountability for end-to-end product outcomes.
  • Experience operating autonomously through ambiguity across evolving product areas and translating complex customer, technical, and business needs into product decisions, prioritized roadmaps, and executable requirements.
  • Experience engaging directly with customers, developers, or partners to understand scenarios and translate feedback into scalable product improvements.
  • Experience making product decisions involving APIs, distributed systems, identity and authorization, service reliability, or comparable technical platform considerations.
  • Experience defining or evaluating search, retrieval, data, or information-access experiences and making tradeoffs involving quality, coverage, freshness, latency, reliability, or cost.
  • Experience using telemetry, customer insights, experiments, evaluations, or other qualitative and quantitative evidence to guide product decisions and measure outcomes.
Responsibilities
  • Own and evolve the strategy and prioritized roadmap for Work IQ’s shared platform and provider ecosystem, translating customer, developer, and business needs into scalable capabilities and clear investment priorities while driving execution through delivery, adoption, and continuous improvement.
  • Define product requirements and success measures for relevance, source coverage, freshness, citations, provenance, and structured evidence used by consuming agents.
  • Partner with engineering and applied science to define how indexed retrieval and live federated sources work together, including source selection, result normalization, ranking, latency, reliability, and partial-failure experiences.
  • Establish requirements for source references, discovery, and integration patterns that enable agents to move reliably from retrieved evidence to authorized fetches or actions.
  • Define provider onboarding, capability and schema discovery, compatibility expectations, lifecycle management, and readiness requirements that support reusable platform experiences.
  • Partner with engineering, security, and governance teams to define requirements related to identity, authorization, tenant policy, auditability, observability, reliability, and controlled rollout.
  • Delegate and coordinate work across provider, consumer, product, and engineering teams and individuals outside the role's direct reporting structure. Navigate competing requirements and dependencies, drive follow-through on commitments, and maintain end-to-end accountability for product outcomes, including work outside the role's own organization.
  • Engage directly with customers, developers, and partners to understand scenarios, evaluate product and integration experiences, answer product questions, gather feedback, and translate recurring insights into scalable product improvements.
  • Use telemetry, evaluations, customer insights, and production evidence to improve retrieval quality, adoption, reliability, performance, and cost.
Desired Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree and 12 or more years of experience in product, service, or program management or software development, or equivalent experience.
  • Familiarity with one or more relevant areas, such as enterprise search, retrieval or retrieval-augmented generation, AI/LLM-based agents, MCP or similar integration protocols, federated data access, developer platforms, or provider ecosystems. Direct MCP or AI-agent product experience is preferred but not required.

Meta falls 7% as $34.9B capex tops cash flow; investors punish AI spending cuts and hikes

Meta shares fell 7% on October 22 even though third-quarter sales rose 26% and beat estimates. Capital expenditure of $34.9 billion topped operating cash flow as AI spending outran the company's cash generation. MetLife's Drew Matus says investors punish both capex cuts and hikes. "I don't actually really know what people want from these people," he said. Microsoft and Alphabet report Wednesday, followed by Amazon and Intel on Thursday. The four make up about 15% of the Nasdaq 100, which has fallen roughly 7% this month. The Federal Reserve decides on rates Wednesday afternoon, hours before Microsoft and Alphabet report. Matus expects it to skip a move and revisit policy in December.

Amazon and Microsoft's $395B AI spending is already paying off through cloud growth

AI spending could pass $1.3 trillion in 2027, according to S&P Global, and investors doubt much of it will pay off. Amazon and Microsoft are already seeing returns on their cloud and AI investments. Amazon raised its capital expenditures to $220 billion this year, mostly for AI. Its cloud arm, Amazon Web Services (AWS), holds 28% of the market, per Synergy Research Group, and has an annualized revenue run rate of $169 billion. AWS posted $16.6 billion in operating income, a margin above 39%. Microsoft is spending $175 billion. Its Azure cloud service holds 21% of the market, with an annualized run rate of $100 billion, up 41% year on year. Management says demand exceeds available capacity. The author favours Microsoft, citing more than 30 million paid Copilot seats, up 50% in several months.

Meta, Barclays, Block cut thousands of jobs as firms shift spending to AI

Companies are cutting jobs and shifting money from staff to artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, as the cost of meeting booming AI demand reshapes budgets. Meta will lay off about 8,000 workers, or 10% of its workforce, and leave about 6,000 jobs unfilled. It expects 2026 expenses to reach as much as $169 billion, driven by infrastructure and AI talent. Block is cutting more than 4,000 of its 10,000-plus employees; its shares are up 19% this year. Kroger will lay off 3,000 corporate staff over three years, and Barclays plans to cut 5,000 jobs, about 5% of its workforce. Snap is eliminating about 16% of staff, or 1,000 jobs. Coinbase is cutting about 14%, and Microsoft is offering buyouts to about 8,750 US employees.

Microsoft could be 2027's surprise quantum winner as Azure hits $100B in annualised revenue

Microsoft could be a surprise winner among quantum computing stocks in 2027, as pure-play rivals falter. IonQ shares are down 29% and D-Wave's 54% this year. Microsoft built a topological superconductor to produce more stable qubits, and pairs it with its Majorana chip architecture. The second version of the chip, it says, improves qubit stability 1,000x. The goal is 1 million qubits on a single chip. Researchers already use quantum processing through its Azure Quantum service. Azure reached $100 billion in annualised revenue in fiscal 2026. Microsoft had $19.6 billion in free cash flow in the fiscal fourth quarter, so it can fund quantum work without the runway risks smaller rivals face. Fourth-quarter revenue rose 18% to $90 billion. Management expects Azure revenue to grow 45% in fiscal 2027, and Microsoft reports first-quarter results on October 28.

VW gives 330,000 staff Microsoft Copilot while pushing a pay freeze to 2030

Volkswagen has equipped more than 330,000 employees with Microsoft Copilot, the AI assistant built into Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams, Microsoft said on October 21. The group says it is used in engineering, production, procurement, and sales. Two days earlier, Volkswagen's labour representatives said the company wants to hold salaries at 2026 levels for the rest of the decade. The company declined to comment on what it called "speculation." Trade union IG Metall is seeking a 5% raise over 12 months. At Microsoft's list price of $30 per user a month, 330,000 seats would cost at most $118.8 million a year. Neither company has disclosed what Volkswagen pays. Volkswagen is also targeting €6 billion in annual net savings by 2030 and plans job cuts in Germany.
