Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Experience in insurance and billing is required.
  • Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and the internet is required.
  • The ability to read, write, speak, and understand English is required.
  • The employee must be able to sit for up to 8 hours per day, stand for up to 2 hours per day, walk for up to 2 hours per day, lift, transfer, push, or pull equipment and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds, and drive for up to 6 hours per day.
  • The employee must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as needed for coverage.
Responsibilities
  • Complete all assigned authorization tasks in the primary workflow software for home health and hospice services in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Upload and index relevant documentation to client attachments in the primary workflow software, including authorization approvals and updates.
  • Submit required authorizations through payer web portals or fax, as applicable.
  • Complete items needed to finalize pending authorizations and update authorization status, frequency, and dates in the primary workflow software.
  • Respond to email and phone requests from sites in a timely and professional manner.
  • Escalate known issues to the Division Manager of Accounts Receivable for Home Health and Hospice or the Central Admissions Supervisor.
  • Complete recertifications for existing authorizations supported by continuation-of-services physician orders.
  • Notify site personnel of issues relating to the validity or finalization of service authorizations.
  • Review authorization workflows for new admissions and recertifications, verify patient homebound status when required, and determine whether alternative insurance is available when homebound status is no longer met.
  • Complete coordination notes documenting authorization activity for communication with locations and billing staff.
  • Maintain accurate knowledge of insurance-plan prior-authorization requirements and ensure patient orders, discipline visits, and authorizations align.
  • Track appeals and appeal decisions, reconcile authorization requests with visits, and communicate decisions to locations.
  • Check the status of pending authorizations, contact payers, and verify payer portals for determinations.
  • Re-verify patient eligibility and benefits monthly to ensure insurance plans remain active.
  • Respond to additional documentation requests from insurance plans.
  • Validate the accuracy of central-intake patient demographic data and selection of the primary payer based on coordination of benefits.
  • Process authorizations and denials in electronic medical-record software and notify locations after authorization adjustments are completed.
  • Send medical-record appeal packets provided by therapy vendors, the Director of Nursing, Regional Directors of Clinical Operations, and administrative staff.
  • Enter appeal tracking information and updates in the Additional Development Request log.
  • Review retrospective post-payment medical-record reviews for takeback adjustments and clear entries more than 90 days old that have not been adjusted or resubmitted by entering payment amounts in the Additional Development Request log.
  • Communicate with Third Party Accounts Receivable Coordinators and Regional Directors of Clinical Operations regarding appeal correspondence and updates.
  • Create facesheets as needed and verify demographic and billing information using patient-supplied information from referring facilities.
  • Complete authorization-related workflow tasks as needed to maintain data integrity.
  • Ensure statement setup is complete before month-end close.
  • Enter authorization numbers for all services into billing systems accurately and promptly.
  • Track outpatient start-of-care and end-of-care episodes in the electronic medical-record system.
  • Enter therapy billing codes when assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in long-term care, hospital, or another related healthcare accounting setting is preferred.
  • Experience with Medicare Advantage and Medicaid eligibility is preferred.

Zachary Mills has been named executive director of Ohio Living Sarah Moore, Delaware, OH. In his new role, he will oversee campus operations, including staff engagement, resident and family communications, support for the local advisory board, and financial management. Mills brings more than 13 years of leadership experience as an administrator and executive director at senior living communities throughout Central Ohio. He is a licensed nursing home administrator and earned a bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University. Mills' background includes experience in process improvement, quality outcomes, relationship-building, workforce stabilization, and staff retention. Kyle Ozimkiewicz advances to executive director role at The Philadelphia Protestant Home. Kyle Ozimkiewicz was named executive director of The Philadelphia Protestant Home (PPH), Philadelphia, PA.
