About the job

Requirements
  • At least 7 years of experience in robotics, mechatronics, hardware test, or reliability engineering, with significant experience on fielded hardware rather than lab prototypes.
  • A track record of owning technical direction by setting priorities, making hardware tradeoff decisions, and influencing partner teams without formal authority.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to define problems and plans independently.
  • Ability to tear down, repair, and recommission electromechanical assemblies, including hands-on soldering and use of a multimeter and calipers.
  • Deep familiarity with mechanical actuator failure modes, including backlash, wear, preload loss, and end-stop damage, and design judgment to contribute to design reviews.
  • Working knowledge of robot control, including impedance- and torque-controlled actuators and controller state lifecycles, to distinguish hardware faults from controls bugs.
  • Fluency with quasi-direct-drive actuators, encoders, torque and current telemetry, CAN, and calibration and zeroing procedures.
  • Strong Python skills for data analysis and tooling, time-series knowledge involving noise floors, drift, and persistence rules, and experience with Datadog or similar tools and pull-request-based workflows.
  • Rigor in evaluating evidence, distinguishing measured from commanded data and correlation from cause, and avoiding baselines based on contaminated data.
Responsibilities
  • Define and drive hardware reliability and integration priorities based on fleet data and customer impact.
  • Turn field evidence into input for next-generation actuator selection, electrical architecture, thermal design, and serviceability, and advocate for those changes with mechanical, electrical, and firmware partners.
  • Establish qualification, validation, and release practices, including EVT/DVT/PVT-style gates, incoming testing, and pre-merge validation.
  • Investigate complex failures—including actuator dropouts, encoder and calibration drift, thermal events, CAN bus faults, and control-stack bugs—and distinguish hardware degradation from firmware, calibration, and model-side causes.
  • Bench-test, rework, and repair actuators and electronics; design and build associated fixtures, jigs, brackets, and small modifications; and translate evidence about backlash, wear, preload, and hard-stop behavior into design changes with the mechanical team.
  • Build fleet health systems, including health metrics and alerting tuned to real faults rather than noise floors, calibration and characterization tools with safety gates, and telemetry pipelines for bandwidth-constrained robots using MCAP, NPZ, and episode archives.
  • Review pull requests across firmware, control code, and deployment configuration, and write runbooks, standard operating procedures, and incident reports that enable teammates to take over the work.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with teleoperation systems, virtual reality interfaces, or data-collection fleets.
  • Experience with hardware qualification using EVT/DVT/PVT processes, manufacturing, or incoming testing.
  • Experience as an early member of a hardware team or building a function from scratch.
  • Experience with MuJoCo simulation sanity-checking.
  • A track record of building tools and standard operating procedures that other engineers adopt.

About the company

Dyna Robotics designs and deploys general-purpose robots that are powered by proprietary foundation models. Their DYNA-1 model enables embodied-AI robots to operate autonomously across real-world commercial environments and continuously improve through experience. The robots work by running a single base model that generalizes to tasks in different settings—hotels, restaurants, laundromats, and gyms—allowing multi-shift, 24/7 operation with high task success. Compared with others, Dyna focuses on broad applicability and self-improvement of their embodied AI in diverse commercial contexts, backed by a strong founder track record and large financing rounds from major investors to scale research, engineering, and production-ready deployments. The company aims to expand research and development and extend production-ready deployments across more commercial environments.

What believers are saying

  • August 2026 DYNA-2 reached 87% zero-shot deployment quality at novel customer sites.
  • Dyna says fleet will reach hundreds of robots by first half 2027.
  • Hiring for safety operators across Walnut Creek, San Diego, Bellevue, and Midtown signals expansion.

What critics are saying

  • One Din Tai Fung rollout anchors revenue; a failed kitchen deployment stalls 2027 expansion.
  • On-site robot safety incidents trigger recalls, lawsuits, and landlord bans across customer properties.
  • If DYNA-2 stops outperforming teleoperation, Dyna becomes another hardware services shop.

What makes Dyna Robotics unique

  • DYNA-2's 1-million-hour human-video pretraining creates a rare scaling-law moat.
  • Din Tai Fung rollouts and hotels prove software-to-hardware transfer beyond demos.
  • Investors like NVIDIA, Amazon, Salesforce, and Samsung validate cross-industry distribution.

Dyna Robotics unveils DYNA-2 robot model trained on 1M hours of human video data

Dyna Robotics has launched DYNA-2, a robot foundation model trained on over 1 million hours of human egocentric video — equivalent to 170 years of continuous experience. The model demonstrates the first human-to-robot scaling law, proving robot performance improves predictably as more human video data is added. DYNA-2 bypasses traditional robotics data bottlenecks by training on video rather than scarce teleoperation data. In high-precision manufacturing tasks, it increased success rates from 20% to 80–90% through pre-training scale alone. The model can adapt to different robot platforms with just hours of fine-tuning. In real-world evaluations, DYNA-2 completed tasks 1.55 times more successfully than the company's previous model, achieving 87% pass rates at customer deployments. Dyna Robotics was founded by Lindon Gao, York Yang, and Jason Ma, backed by investors including CRV and First Round.
