Requirements
  • A PhD in a scientific or engineering-related discipline with a computational focus and 3 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with computer simulations, data analytics, computational tools, high-performance computing software, and/or supercomputing hardware.
  • Experience designing, writing, and porting scientific applications.
  • Experience developing computational tools and constructing data analysis pipelines.
  • Experience developing or debugging software and using software management systems.
  • Knowledge of programming with a high-level programming language such as C/C++, Fortran, or Java.
  • Knowledge of shell scripting and interpreted programming languages such as Perl, Python, or R.
  • Knowledge of parallel programming techniques and libraries such as MPI, OpenMP, and CUDA.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage programming projects, collaborations, and personnel in an academic environment.
Responsibilities
  • Provide research support for integrating computing hardware and software tools to accomplish research tasks across scholarly disciplines.
  • Partner with faculty, students, and research staff to understand scientific problems and apply advanced research computing tools to achieve research outcomes.
  • Recommend computational and visualization tools, techniques, and methodologies.
  • Serve as an architect and developer for the computational aspects of research investigations.
  • Develop, port, install, and optimize software for high-performance computing and data-intensive architectures, including graphics processing units, massively parallel systems, and cloud environments.
  • Teach workshops and tutorial sessions focused on scientific programming and data analysis.
  • Guide students, faculty, and collaborators in research project development and implementation.
  • Develop, maintain, and improve department computing and visualization infrastructure.
  • Consult on computational research project design and implementation.
  • Serve as a consultant, collaborator, or co-investigator on sponsored research projects with principal investigators, research staff, and students.
  • Oversee and mentor students and research staff.
  • Contribute technical and analytical content for research publications.
  • Present or contribute to scientific presentations.
  • Install, maintain, and support scientific applications and libraries in high-performance computing environments, including accelerators, parallel file systems, low-latency networks, specialized visualization systems, virtual machines, and cloud-based systems.
  • Work with system administrators, network engineers, and other professionals to design, build, and maintain research computing software and hardware systems.
  • Develop, port, and optimize applications supporting high-performance computing and cloud-based architectures.
  • Provide technical end-user support for faculty, students, and research staff using CIRC systems.
  • Develop documentation and provide support to diagnose issues and provide solutions.
  • Develop training materials, conduct workshops, and serve as a guest lecturer in courses leveraging CIRC technologies.
  • Remain current on trends in research computing, particularly high-performance computing environments.
  • Contribute to manuscripts and proposals based on developments in research and technology and evolving needs.
