Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree is required, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • A valid State of Missouri Paramedic license is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • The ability to think critically and solve problems independently is required.
  • The ability to stay organized and work on multiple tasks simultaneously is required.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canvas, and CAMS is required.
  • Stamina to teach classes as required and the ability to stand or sit for extended periods are required.
  • Regular attendance is required.
Responsibilities
  • Teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars in an organized manner.
  • Clearly communicate learning goals and assessment methods, adapt instruction to student difficulties, and help students develop problem-solving skills.
  • Provide feedback on tests and assignments and offer additional help or extended learning opportunities based on assessment results.
  • Establish a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment.
  • Hold classes as scheduled and follow established course schedules, providing written notice of substantial changes when needed.
  • Enforce and respect university policies, procedures, and rules, and report unresolved student violations or inappropriate conduct to the appropriate university official.
  • Distribute the syllabus by the first class meeting for each course taught.
  • Ensure students receive reasonable and timely assistance with course assignments and assessments.
  • Administer an examination or other evaluative activity during the scheduled final-exam period for every course.
  • Determine final grades according to the method prescribed in the syllabus.
  • Mentor students through activities including tutoring, research, curricular extensions, resume-building initiatives, leadership opportunities, university resources, problem solving, and healthy and ethical lifestyle development.
  • Complete other requirements as requested by the dean.
  • Engage in scholarly activities and creative endeavors that contribute to the university's academic mission.
  • Supervise laboratories, independent study activities, practicums, internships, and other off-campus learning.
  • Participate in shared governance, university events, initiatives, co-curricular activities, and recruiting.
  • Coordinate work behavior with colleagues and demonstrate interpersonal effectiveness and respect toward students, colleagues, and administrators.
Desired Qualifications
  • An EMS Instructor credential is preferred.
  • Instructor qualification in industry certification courses, including ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, and AMLS, is preferred.
