Voice AI model built to accurately capture real multilingual medical conversations.

Voice AI model built to accurately capture real multilingual medical conversations. October 14, 2026 at 09:14 AM EDT i This article is third-party content and does not represent the views of this site. Tamar Securities, LLC make no guarantees regarding its accuracy or completeness. CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom, Oct. 14, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Today, Speechmatics releases Oak, a medical speech recognition model built on new architecture. Oak transcribes clinical conversations as speakers switch languages mid-sentence, keeping drug names, doses, and diagnoses highly accurate. More than one in five people in the US speak a language other than English at home*, and clinicians mirror that trend with one study showing that 71.6% of first-year US resident physicians speak a second language**. Clinical conversations switch between speakers and languages constantly, often mid-sentence. Yet existing speech recognition models do not accurately reflect that clinical reality. Most providers build medical models for English only, and general models often get medical terms wrong. Oak was developed to capture real multilingual medical conversations. Model evaluation also needs to change to prove real value. Most speech recognition providers report accuracy as word error rate (WER), which gives the same 'value' to every word. Mistranscribing "the" and "amlodipine" does not present the same risk. One is a typo, and the other puts the wrong drug on a patient's record. In a setting where errors have a huge impact, WER is not rigorous enough. Instead, Speechmatics measures Oak on medical term recall specifically, which focuses on the share of correctly transcribed drug names, conditions, procedures and side effects. In an internal Speechmatics study, the Oak model accurately transcribed 91% of all medical terms in English and 10 additional commonly used languages, tested on both clean audio and recordings with realistic background noise. The eight other providers missed or mistranscribed an average of 25.7% of medical terms - roughly one drug name, condition, or side effect in every four. Spanish is the most widely spoken language after English in US homes, with 42 million speakers***. In Spanish, Oak transcribed 96.3% of medical terms, against 86.8% on average for the other eight providers. For every 100 drug names, conditions, and side effects spoken in a consultation in Spanish, Oak misses about four, while the others miss 13 on average, more than three times as many. Oak transcribes a conversation across languages and speakers, switching mid-sentence with no language set in advance. It supports 55 languages and can transcribe an hour of audio accurately within 18 seconds, allowing for more optimized workflows. Oak was developed by Speechmatics and can be deployed in the cloud or self-hosted within a healthcare organization's own environment. For self-hosted deployments, Speechmatics uses NVIDIA Dynamo-Triton to serve Oak, giving organizations greater control over where sensitive patient audio is processed. Speechmatics also uses NVIDIA Nsight Systems for performance profiling and optimization, alongside quantized NVIDIA CUDA kernels to improve inference efficiency. Oak builds on years of experience deploying speech recognition technology in high-stakes medical environments. Humetrix switched to Speechmatics for multilingual patient intake and ran it for patients from 97 countries at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Sully.ai uses Speechmatics for clinical scribes and AI receptionists serving more than 500 provider customers and in the UK, tens of millions of NHS 111 calls per year are transcribed using Speechmatics via partner Content Guru. Katy Wigdahl, CEO of Speechmatics, said, "Our mission is to understand every voice and the risk of getting that wrong in a medical environment is huge. A consultation can move from Spanish to English and back in one sentence, with a drug name in the middle. That switch is the precise moment a clinician can least afford an error." "Getting clinical terms right in every language is one of the hardest problems in speech recognition. Oak shows it can be solved when the model is built for how clinicians and patients actually speak, and we're proud to see it set a new bar for accuracy where it matters most." Notes to Editors: * Speechmatics is HIPAA-compliant, SOC 2 Type II certified, ISO/IEC 27001:2022 accredited, and GDPR-compliant. * Speechmatics supports multiple endpoints where data can be processed to comply with sovereign requirements. * Speechmatics runs across cloud, private cloud, on-premises and edge environments, so healthcare providers can keep patient audio inside their own infrastructure, and its data processing environments around the world help customers meet compliance, regulatory and sovereignty obligations. Benchmarking methodology: Speechmatics internal medical speech recognition evaluation, 29 September 2026. Oak tested against AWS, AssemblyAI, Deepgram, ElevenLabs, Google, Microsoft, OpenAI and Soniox across 19 medical test sets in 11 languages (one language per test set), using the same audio and scoring for every provider, covering both clean audio and audio with realistic background noise. All providers ran on default settings with no custom vocabulary, using each provider's best available model per language, including dedicated medical models where offered. About Speechmatics Speechmatics builds the most accurate and inclusive speech recognition in the world, trusted by enterprises and developers across financial services, media, contact centers and government for unmatched language coverage, accuracy, and flexibility. Speechmatics launches Agent STT with 1.05% semantic error rate for voice agents

Speechmatics has launched Agent STT, a speech-to-text API designed specifically for voice agents. The product aims to prevent small but critical transcription errors that can derail automated calls, such as incorrect digits in account numbers or missed negations. Agent STT is powered by Speechmatics' new Linden model, which finalises spoken segments in under 350 milliseconds and supports over 55 languages. The system includes custom vocabulary for up to 1,000 terms, live speaker diarisation and conversational event tracking. In the Pipecat STT benchmark, Linden achieved a 1.05% pooled semantic error rate with a 369-millisecond median finalisation time. According to the benchmark, no other model among 23 tested was both faster and more accurate. The API is available now, with launch pricing from $0.30 per hour, dropping to $0.16 per hour with volume discounts.

Tresic selects Speechmatics for speech-to-text after evaluation against Google and Deepgram

Tresic has selected Speechmatics to power speech-to-text for its Intelligence Cloud platform after evaluating it against Google and Deepgram. The platform adds conversation intelligence to business calls using the vCon standard, with Speechmatics running on Tresic's own infrastructure so audio never leaves it. Both companies operate behind other brands. Tresic sells through communications and managed service providers, whilst Speechmatics supplies speech technology for voice products built by others. This reflects a broader trend in business AI, where familiar brands use third-party models behind the scenes. Tresic's platform attaches to existing voice seats without requiring installation or affecting call quality. It produces same-day summaries, converts commitments into tasks, and alerts managers when conversations meet set conditions. Speechmatics was chosen for transcription accuracy, particularly for PCI redaction compliance and diarisation across varied audio conditions including accents and background noise.

The future of AI is nameless: Tresic selects Speechmatics to power the speech layer of its conversation intelligence platform.

The future of AI is nameless: Tresic selects Speechmatics to power the speech layer of its conversation intelligence platform. End customers will only ever see their own provider's brand, which means the layer underneath has to be good enough to go unnoticed. LONE TREE, Colo. and CAMBRIDGE, United Kingdom, Sept. 09, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Tresic has selected Speechmatics to power the speech-to-text layer of its Intelligence Cloud platform, following a direct evaluation against Google and Deepgram. The platform, built on the vCon standard, adds conversation intelligence to calls a business is already making. Speechmatics runs as part of Tresic's own infrastructure, so audio and transcripts never leave it. "Every summary and search result depends on knowing who spoke and what they actually said, so diarization and accuracy carry more weight here than they would..." "Our partners have spent years earning trust with these customers, and it is their name that goes on this. That decided how we chose the speech layer..." "Every summary and search result depends on knowing who spoke and what they actually said, so diarization and accuracy carry more weight here than they would..." "Our partners have spent years earning trust with these customers, and it is their name that goes on this. That decided how we chose the speech layer..." Both companies sell into products that carry somebody else's brand. Tresic goes to market through communications and managed service providers. Speechmatics supplies the speech layer inside voice products that other builders and enterprises ship. A business deals with its own provider throughout and never has to think about who built what. That is becoming the standard route for business AI. From Slackbot to QuickBooks to Zoom's AI Companion, and most recently Apple Intelligence, the same shape keeps appearing through 2026: a familiar brand on the surface, somebody else's models behind it. Gartner expects it to stay that way. With AI in what the firm calls the Trough of Disillusionment through 2026, it says AI will most often reach enterprises through their incumbent software provider rather than arrive as a new project. How it works Tresic attaches to the voice seats a provider already sells. Nothing is installed on the customer's side, nobody invites a bot into a call, and staff answer the phone the way they always have. Where the seat is already recording, every analyzable business conversation produces a record. The platform is never in the call path: it cannot drop a call, add delay, or affect call quality. From that record, the business gets a summary the same business day, and every commitment becomes a task with an owner and a due date. When a conversation meets conditions the business has set, a manager is alerted within minutes of hang-up. Conversation history is searchable by person, number, and topic. "Our partners have spent years earning trust with these customers, and it is their name that goes on this. That decided how we chose the speech layer. Speechmatics does one of the hardest parts of the job and takes none of the credit, which is the same arrangement we offer our partners." Kevin Nethercott, Co-Founder and CEO, Tresic Why Speechmatics was selected Summaries, alerts, and search all rest on getting the words right, and redaction shows the stakes most clearly. A card number spoken aloud can only be masked if the system heard it correctly, and one wrong digit means it is not masked at all. Tresic names PCI redaction as the foundation layer of its platform, which puts transcription accuracy in the category of compliance controls. The audio makes that harder than it sounds. These are calls from vans, depots, shop floors, and open-plan offices, in accents from everywhere, with nobody reading from a script. Consistency across the test set and accuracy on exactly that kind of audio decided the evaluation. Deployment was the second condition. Because partners badge the platform as their own, conversation data has to stay inside infrastructure they can account for to their customers, so both passes run on Tresic's own hardware: one tuned for speed, one tuned for accuracy, so the record is right. "Every summary and search result depends on knowing who spoke and what they actually said, so diarization and accuracy carry more weight here than they would on cleaner audio. Running inside Tresic's own infrastructure costs them nothing in accuracy, which is usually the trade people expect to make. The version that works is the one nobody has to think about." Katy Wigdahl, CEO, Speechmatics All of it rests on vCon, the open IETF-track standard for conversation data, which keeps a provider's conversations portable and readable outside the platform. Data is separated by partner, customer, and location. About Tresic Tresic adds conversation intelligence to the voice seats communications and managed service providers already sell, so every business conversation ends in a summary, a captured commitment, or an alert to the person who needs it. Partners carry it under their own brand, at their own price, to the customers they already serve. The platform is built on vCon, the open IETF-track standard for conversation data, and is distributed through the channel only. Tresic is headquartered in Lone Tree, Colorado. Intelligence, Actioned. Speechmatics launches Linden voice AI model on LiveKit for 55+ languages

Speechmatics has launched Linden, a speech-to-text model designed for voice agents, now available through LiveKit Inference across over 55 languages. Developers can integrate the model in under a minute via UI or code. The model addresses accuracy issues in real-world conditions where voice agents struggle, including strong accents, noisy environments, and alphanumeric sequences over poor-quality phone lines. Linden specialises in transcribing non-native speakers, dialects, and account numbers. LiveKit Inference manages the pipeline, routing, billing, and turn detection, eliminating the need for separate API keys or accounts. Norwegian AI company boost.ai already deploys both technologies in production for European enterprise clients. The partnership aims to reduce deployment time from weeks to minutes whilst improving transcription reliability in challenging production scenarios.
