Responsibilities
  • Review consultation requests for special instructions from the requesting physician and consult with the Radiologist as necessary.
  • Obtain patient history and clinical data for correlation with scans.
  • Greet patients, confirm their identification, and introduce yourself.
  • Explain the examination procedure to the patient and their family, if present.
  • Maintain a complete working knowledge of all equipment in the CAT Scan department.
  • Perform routine CAT Scan procedures according to established protocols.
  • Assist the Radiologist with CT-guided biopsies and drainages.
  • Verify that the patient has consented to the procedure and understands the risks, benefits, alternatives, and follow-up.
  • Evaluate lab values as required before administering contrast media and beginning interventional procedures.
  • Maintain a daily activities log and procedure manual.
  • Ensure appropriate storage and ordering of supplies for the CAT Scan area.
  • Monitor and report supply shortages and special-order items.
  • Perform visual preventive safety inspections and daily quality assurance tests on CAT Scan equipment.
  • Identify problems and communicate them to the immediate supervisor.
  • Evaluate scans for technical quality.
  • Demonstrate the anatomy under investigation through proper positioning.
  • Provide radiation protection to patients, staff, and self according to prescribed safety standards.
  • Recognize emergency situations, initiate code procedures, and administer first aid or CPR as needed.
