About the job

Requirements
  • At least 8 years of professional software engineering, infrastructure engineering, site reliability engineering, or equivalent experience, including substantial ownership of production systems.
  • Strong software engineering ability in at least one language such as Go, Python, TypeScript, Rust, or similar, with experience building maintainable services, automation, command-line interfaces, application programming interfaces, or developer tools.
  • Demonstrated experience operating infrastructure and distributed systems in production, including diagnosing failures, managing capacity, improving performance, and designing for high availability and recovery.
  • Experience designing, operating, or improving production systems across cloud infrastructure, networking, compute, storage, deployment platforms, or related infrastructure domains.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, or Microsoft Azure and infrastructure as code, such as Terraform or an equivalent system.
  • Experience with containers and orchestration, such as Kubernetes, Amazon Elastic Kubernetes Service, Google Kubernetes Engine, Azure Kubernetes Service, Docker, or Nomad, including workload deployment, networking, security, and operational troubleshooting.
  • Experience owning and managing cloud network security controls, including network firewalls, DNS filtering, and network segmentation.
  • Experience designing or improving continuous integration and continuous delivery and automated software delivery systems, including testing, deployment, progressive rollout, rollback, and change validation.
  • Practical experience with observability, including metrics, logs, traces, alerting, dashboards, and production health models. Familiarity with OpenTelemetry or comparable tooling is valuable.
  • Working knowledge of service-level objectives, error budgets, incident response, blameless postmortems, and techniques for reducing operational toil.
  • Experience with high-availability architectures, capacity planning, failure recovery, and the operational tradeoffs required to run critical systems at scale.
  • Experience building secure-by-default systems and collaborating with security teams on identity, access control, secrets, supply-chain security, and policy enforcement.
  • Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies and domains quickly, including the infrastructure and reliability characteristics of data-intensive, event-driven, or artificial intelligence and machine learning workloads.
  • Track record of setting technical direction, leading architecture across multiple teams, and influencing decisions without relying on direct authority.
  • Experience mentoring engineers, developing technical leaders, and communicating complex technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong technical communication and leadership skills, with the ability to turn cross-functional problems into maintainable systems and delivered results.
Responsibilities
  • Set technical direction for platform capabilities and contribute to a long-term plan for cloud, networking, infrastructure, delivery, and reliability engineering.
  • Lead architecture recommendations and technical engagements across the software development lifecycle, from early design through production operation.
  • Design, build, and maintain platform services, application programming interfaces, command-line interfaces, controllers, workflows, and automation in languages such as Go, TypeScript, Python, or similar; own them through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and production operation.
  • Build self-service capabilities that let engineers provision environments, deploy services, manage infrastructure, and respond to operational conditions safely without relying on manual platform intervention.
  • Create and evolve standard workflows for service development and delivery, including templates, libraries, deployment workflows, policy as code, and reusable platform building blocks.
  • Design and improve the cloud, compute, storage, identity, and infrastructure building blocks used by engineering teams.
  • Design and operate core network infrastructure across public clouds and regions, including routing, connectivity, traffic management, and security controls.
  • Operate and improve the compute, container, networking, and cloud infrastructure that supports critical services and new workloads, including distributed and artificial intelligence-enabled systems where appropriate.
  • Improve the systems and workflows used to provision infrastructure, connect services, deliver changes, and recover from failures across environments.
  • Define and use service-level indicators, service-level objectives, error budgets, and production-readiness standards with engineering teams to make reliability and launch decisions explicit and measurable.
  • Improve observability, alerting, capacity planning, performance, and failure handling; design systems that degrade gracefully, roll out progressively, and recover automatically where safe.
  • Lead or coordinate response to significant incidents, ensure effective post-incident follow-through, and turn recurring operational work into permanent improvements through postmortems.
  • Reduce repetitive operational work by measuring it, automating or eliminating it, and keeping the team focused primarily on engineering work that improves reliability, scale, security, cost, or developer experience.
  • Influence engineering standards and practices across teams through design reviews, technical writing, prototypes, internal education, and direct collaboration.
  • Build alignment across competing priorities and stakeholders; make pragmatic tradeoffs while preserving clear interfaces and room for future evolution.
  • Mentor engineers, develop technical leaders, and raise the quality of platform engineering practices across Gemini.

What believers are saying

  • Revenue is broadening: Gemini reported services revenue up 149% year over year in August 2026, reaching $23.5 million.
  • Gemini has a brokerage distribution plan: an August 2026 Apex letter of intent proposes exclusive crypto prediction execution.

What critics are saying

  • Losses outweigh sales: Gemini reported a $107.7 million quarterly net loss in August 2026 against $45.5 million revenue.
  • Jobs have already shrunk: Gemini reported a roughly 30% workforce reduction by March 2026.

Judge rejects CFTC, Gemini bid to vacate $5 million settlement.

Judge rejects CFTC, Gemini bid to vacate $5 million settlement. Published on 10/16/2026 at 11:57 am EDT - Modified on 10/16/2026 at 12:11 pm EDT WASHINGTON, Oct 16 (Reuters) - A federal judge in Manhattan has rejected a joint request by the US Commodity Futures Trading Commission and Gemini, a cryptocurrency exchange founded by twin brothers Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, to undo a $5 million settlement from the Biden administration. In a ruling on Thursday, US District Judge Alvin Hellerstein said the agency and Gemini Trust Co had not met the standards required to set aside the settlement, which resolved a lawsuit over statements Gemini made during the agency's review of a proposed bitcoin futures contract. The CFTC and a lawyer for Gemini did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The CFTC sued Gemini in 2022, alleging the company made false or misleading statements during the agency's review of the proposed futures product. The January 2025 settlement came at the end of Democratic President Joe Biden's administration and shortly before a trial. Republican President Donald Trump's administration has taken a friendlier, narrower approach to crypto sector enforcement. The commodities agency and Gemini in May jointly asked Hellerstein, appointed by Democratic President Bill Clinton, to wipe out the settlement and court order. They said in a filing that the agency's complaint, lodged in 2022, would not have been filed under new enforcement policy priorities and standards under Trump. The court filing said regulators should not have accused Gemini of making false statements in connection with its bitcoin futures business. The CFTC and Gemini said the CFTC had "resorted to inappropriate tactics" to bring a lawsuit. Gemini agreed not to receive a refund on the $5 million penalty if the settlement were vacated. Hellerstein said Gemini had litigated against the CFTC for more than three years before voluntarily agreeing to settle and that the agency's current view of the case does not require vacating the settlement. The Winklevoss twins became widely known after accusing Mark Zuckerberg of stealing their idea for Facebook, a dispute that ended with a 2008 settlement that included cash and company stock.
