Requirements
  • An Associate’s degree in Accounting is preferred.
  • One to five years of hands-on experience supporting financial operations, including data entry, reconciliations, and report preparation.
  • Practical experience maintaining accurate financial records and supporting accounting functions.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, with advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel and strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization of financial information, with a high level of discretion and integrity.
  • Effective time management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively.
Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate financial records, including tracking all income and expenses, reviewing the general ledger, preparing reports, managing budgets, performing bank reconciliations, and conducting financial analysis for assigned Corps.
  • Handle the accounting for all assigned Corps, supported by additional training from the Corps Accounting Manager for select accounting duties.
  • Review expense data entered by data clerks before posting, submit corrections, and ensure revisions are made.
  • Review all income for assigned Corps and enter it into the accounting system.
  • Prepare cash requirements reports and process checks for payment of liabilities as directed by Corps Officers.
  • Review payroll entries and ensure information is properly recorded in assigned Corps accounts; provide direction to the data clerk as needed.
  • Reconcile bank statements for all assigned accounts monthly, present them to the Corps Officer for review and signature, and ensure outstanding items are resolved promptly.
  • Review all balance sheet accounts monthly and follow up to keep them current and clear.
  • Process monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports; maintain permanent records in an orderly manner; and transmit required data.
  • Prepare subsidiary records required for third-party billings for supervisor review.
  • Review accounting records for accuracy and provide monthly analyses.
  • Take a lead role in budget preparation for assigned Corps with support from the Corps Officer.
  • Prepare monthly billings for contracts.
  • Assist with other accounting-related duties as requested.
  • Take a lead role in ensuring timely and thorough year-end closings for assigned Corps.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the accounting system and all upgrades.
  • Ensure tithing and donor-related income are properly recorded and tracked.
  • Prepare year-end statements on tithing.
  • Process necessary journal entries to maintain accounts in good order for supervisor review.
  • Review Support Service for accuracy and entry into the accounting system, and ensure payments to Divisional Headquarters are timely.
  • Assist with audit preparation and respond to questions and research requested by auditors.
  • Learn and understand The Salvation Army’s policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Prepare reports and budgets required for outside and internal funding opportunities with assistance from the Corps Accounting Manager as needed.
  • Ensure gifts in kind are recorded monthly.
  • Notify the Supervisor of accounting delays, anomalies, or concerns as they occur or become evident.
  • Serve as backup for Corps Accounting Staff during their absence.
  • Attend meetings as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the Corps and co-workers.
