Wellstar Columbia County Medical Center scheduled to open in Grovetown in late august.

Wellstar Columbia County Medical Center scheduled to open in Grovetown in late august. Jun 3, 2026 Wellstar Columbia County Medical Center is nearing completion and is scheduled to open Aug. 26, according to a June 3 announcement. The six-story, 100-bed hospital is located at 5000 Gateway Blvd. in Grovetown. "It's phenomenal to get to this level of substantial completion with construction because it means we're that much closer to increasing access to care across the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA)," said Ralph Turner, president of Wellstar MCG Health Medical Center. The new medical center expands healthcare services already offered in Augusta for more rural counties like McDuffie and provides additional learning opportunities for students at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University. Students will train using the latest technologies in healthcare. "This is 12 years of a dream that began with a commitment to better serve this community," said Augusta University President Russell Keen. "What's being built here is an investment in the CSRA as well as an important part of strengthening the healthcare workforce across Georgia through Wellstar MCG Health, Augusta University and the Medical College of Georgia." Wellstar Columbia County will feature new technologies that improve how healthcare is delivered. The hospital will have dedicated intensive care unit rooms, but every patient room can function as an ICU room if needed. Patient rooms will also include cameras for telehealth visits with specialists or family members. "That is the pivotal piece of the telehealth technology at a community hospital. We'll be able to digitally connect specialty providers at Wellstar MCG Health in downtown Augusta with patients and their care team in Columbia County without having to be in the building," said Tammy Moore, chief nursing officer of Wellstar Columbia County. A digital whiteboard will display each patient's name and medical history for greater visibility between patients and their care teams, helping ensure up-to-date information when making diagnoses or decisions at bedside. Larger windows were incorporated into design plans for more natural light, which has been shown to positively affect patient well-being. A 92,000-square-foot medical office building adjacent to the hospital - featuring 11 outpatient clinics - remains under construction and is expected to open later this fall. Wellstar Health System invests millions annually in charity care and community benefit programs; it operates more than 400 locations across north and west Georgia; includes facilities specializing in cancer, heart and vascular health, neurology, orthopedics, women's health, and pediatrics; has received Magnet designation for nursing excellence at multiple facilities; aims to improve health outcomes throughout its service area; and Candice Saunders serves as president and chief executive officer - all according to the official website.

Cobb's business leaders honored at 84th Annual Dinner. Highlights of the evening include the 2025 Chairman awards presentation and an address by the 2026 Chairwoman. The Cobb Chamber celebrated its many accomplishments of 2025 at the 84th Annual Dinner celebration, presented by Wellstar, on Feb. 28 at the Cobb Convention Center Atlanta. Over 1,200 business and community leaders attended the black-tie optional dinner affair, including military leaders, economic development partners, and elected officials. Brian Jordan, former NFL and MLB athlete and the President of the Brian Jordan Foundation, served as the event's master of ceremonies. The evening included a robust program, including outgoing Chairman, Chris Britton of Brasfield & Gorrie, passing the leadership to 2026 Chairwoman, Melissa Cantrell of CDH Partners. In his address, Britton celebrated the collective efforts of the Chamber and how it served as a champion for businesses and the community over the past year. He highlighted: * A record year for the Membership Campaign, raising a historic $1,230,533 and welcoming 336 new members. * 26 project wins for SelectCobb, bringing more than 2,181 high quality jobs. * MLB All-Star week, welcoming thousands of visitors to the county. During the evening, Britton presented several awards to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to enhance the quality of the Chamber's programming and the quality of life in Cobb. The 2026 Chairman's Award was presented to Al Martin of Georgia Power, a dedicated partner to the Chamber for several decades. The award is presented to an individual for outstanding leadership, dedication, enthusiasm, and commitment to the Cobb Chamber. Martin is a long-term investor in the Cobb Chamber, serving in the membership campaign as division chair, overall chair, team captain, and the top producer in 2025. He played a vital role in developing the mentoring component of CYP Cultivate, chaired the grants committee for Cobb Community Foundation, served as a long-time Cobb Travel & Tourism board member, and given his time to countless nonprofits like the Center for Family Resources. Bert Reeves serves as Vice Chair of Government Relations and Advocacy and has continued to expand the Government Affairs Committee by leading the launch of three impactful new programs. Reeves and the Chamber's advocacy team led the committee to the state Capitol during session, hosted legislators for an exclusive tour of Dobbins Air Reserve Base, Lockheed Martin, and the Georgia Tech Research Institute, and helped launch Conversations in Democracy - a series designed to foster open dialogue between Chamber members and elected officials, both past and present. The 2026 Mack Henderson Public Service Award was presented to Dr. Tiffany Barney of the Cobb Innovation & Technology Academy and Rob Garcia III of the Marietta High School College and Career Academy. Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia receives $50 million gift, to soon be renamed

Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia receives $50 million gift, to soon be renamed. AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) - Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia on Monday announced it has received $50 million from Paychex founder Tom Golisano, the largest donation in the history of Wellstar and the Children's Hospital of Georgia. Accepting the gift means that the children's hospital will join the Golisano Children's Alliance, a national consortium of 12 leading children's hospitals, making it the first in all of Georgia, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina. The money will be used to created a new pediatric intensive care unit. "We've been on the journey and in the process of moving towards having a separate cardiac intensive care unit for children. This just accelerates that, and allows us to do it much quicker than we otherwise would have been able to do," said Dr. Valera Hudson, Pediatrician-In-Chief at Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia. "So, that's good news for children in Georgia and our region who need this care." The hospital will soon be renamed to Wellstar Golisano Children's Hospital of Georgia. "Children's hospitals are essential to the health and future of our communities, and each one serves families with unique needs and challenges," said Tom Golisano. "The team at Wellstar Children's Hospital of Georgia has a deep commitment to advancing pediatric care, expanding access, and investing in innovation. I'm proud to support their work and to welcome them into the Golisano Children's Alliance as we continue building a collaborative network focused on improving outcomes for children nationwide.
