A minimum High School diploma or Grade 12 education is required.
A minimum of three years of K9 handler experience is required.
A minimum of one year of supervised K9 training experience is required.

Strong written and verbal communication and active listening skills are required.
A valid security license, provincial driver's license at G or higher with a clear driving abstract, Basic First Aid and CPR certification, and a valid passport are required.
Applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a Ministry of Natural Resources license to store and transport explosives, Transportation Security Clearance, and RAIC.
Applicants must be willing to provide a criminal record check upon request.
Applicants must maintain Transport Canada certification with a canine or, under the direction of the Master Trainer, house and train a new green canine.
Responsibilities
Under the direction of the unit's Master Trainer or Trainer, develop, maintain, and deliver a comprehensive canine training program for ASP handlers.
Act as a liaison with Transport Canada to ensure compliance with Transport Canada certification guidelines.
Participate in administrative functions that support the unit and its leadership.
Plan and conduct team briefings on threat levels, issues, events, site activities, and changes in regulations or procedures.
Perform site visits in all provinces as required to support ASP handlers and assess and maintain standards.
Collaborate with K9 unit leadership to understand site-specific requirements, expectations, issues, and challenges that can be addressed through training.
Participate in consultative and problem-solving services with the Master Trainer and unit leadership.
Monitor canine care procedures, including housing, food, grooming, exercise, and veterinary services.
Ensure ASP handlers comply with shift logs and training logs.
Prepare shift-log and training-log reports for unit leadership and Master Trainer or Head Trainer, and identify risks and issues related to canine performance.
Support the K9 Unit by assisting in the recruitment and selection process for canines.
Under the direction of the Master Trainer or Trainer, participate in training and odour-recognition imprinting of new canines.
Develop and maintain K9 Unit training materials.
Maintain individual files for ASP K9 dogs in the immediate region.
Support the development and maintenance of K9 Unit performance standards, policies, procedures, standard operating procedures, post orders, and operational concepts for new or changing requirements.
Work with the Master Trainer or Trainer to achieve Trainer-level recognition with the NAPCH organization.

PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for assisting any Trainers or Master Trainers in all training compliance standards and programs for our hander teams. This role ensures our handlers and canines are highly trained, professional, and capable of detecting, responding to and resolving actual or potential security issues/concerns relating to explosives. Keen ability to work with Trainer / Master Trainer to identify training needs of canines and their handlers and develop and execute training measures to address these needs Maintain and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures. Ensure proper execution of procedures and compliance for all required documentation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direction of the unit’s Master Trainer and or Trainer, Developing, maintaining, and delivering a comprehensive Canine Training Program for ASP handlers.
Acting as a liaison with Transport Canada to ensure we are meeting all TC guidelines for certification.
Participating in administrative functions that support the unit and the unit’s leadership.
Planning and conducting team briefings to ensure individuals on threat levels, issues/events or activities affecting the site(s), and any changes in regulations or procedures.
Performing site visits in all provinces as required to deliver support to ASP handlers and to assess and maintain our standards.
