Requirements
  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Two years of experience performing installation, operation, construction, maintenance, and/or repair work.
  • A Class C operator's driver's license is required, along with a current three-year driving record.
  • The successful candidate must complete strength and agility testing before employment.
Responsibilities
  • Perform tasks from supervisor or crew leader work orders, communicate repair needs and status with supervisors, staff, and student residents, coordinate work requiring other trades, and track inventory used from the shop.
  • Assist all trades with preventive maintenance, including changing air filters, repairing shop equipment, and managing inventory.
  • Assist electrician technicians with installations and apartment make-readies, check and maintain electrical systems, change lamps and ceiling fan switches, and perform minor electrical repairs.
  • Assist HVAC technicians with HVAC installation and preventive maintenance, including changing air filters in student apartments and offices.
  • Assist plumbers with minor plumbing repairs, sewer-system maintenance, make-readies, and replacing and servicing sinks, bathtubs, lavatories, and toilets.
  • Assist carpenters with installations and repairs involving make-readies, doors, cabinets, windows, floors, drywall, framing, and roofs.
  • Complete daily paperwork, mileage reports, weekly computer records, and work orders accurately and on time; document work performed, tests, possible charges, delays, and parts.
  • Pick up supplies and drive a University of Texas vehicle.
  • Carry a University of Texas cell phone during the on-call rotation and respond to emergency repairs 24/7, including weekends and overtime as assigned.
  • Promote ongoing professional development through training, workshops, and monthly safety training.
Desired Qualifications
  • More than two years of experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and/or building maintenance and repair environments.
  • Experience installing and repairing doors, showers, toilets, and lavatories.
  • More than two years of experience in carpentry.
  • Prior University of Texas experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with others and in a team environment.
