About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Direct experience administering construction contracts, including change orders, payment requests, budget management, and delay claims.
  • 5-7+ years of experience in owner's-representative, project-management, or contract-administration roles on commercial, industrial, or infrastructure construction.
  • Proven ability to coordinate complex projects and schedules across utilities, authorities having jurisdiction, and contractors.
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, including monthly forecasting and cost-to-complete reporting.
  • Ability to hold contractors accountable to their safety plans.
  • Proficiency with scheduling software and construction project management platforms.
  • Ability to read civil, structural, and electrical drawings and submittals sufficiently to coordinate work, identify scope gaps, and route technical questions to the Engineer of Record.
  • Ability to evaluate contractor proposals and recognize out-of-scope work in battery energy storage system-specific equipment, including battery racks, inverters, HVAC, and fire suppression.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in writing and in person, produce concise project updates, and work effectively across departments and with contractors, utilities, and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Comfort with modern software, data, and artificial intelligence tools and ability to learn new tools.
Responsibilities
  • Administer construction contracts as the owner's representative, including reviewing and dispositioning change orders, reviewing contractor payment applications against actual progress, managing retainage and back-charges, and adjudicating delay and other claims against the contract.
  • Track project budgets and produce cost-to-complete forecasts; identify agreement conflicts or gaps and coordinate with legal and commercial teams to resolve them.
  • Own projects from notice to proceed through commissioning and handover, managing concurrent builds to deliver on schedule, within budget, and ready for operations.
  • Advance projects by resolving uncertainties, working through disputes, and addressing field challenges before they stall progress.
  • Track critical-path activities, identify drivers of completion dates, and produce schedule reporting and forecasts.
  • Analyze schedule delay time impacts against contractual requirements, evaluate contractor entitlement, and recommend recovery paths.
  • Set project safety expectations, review contractor safety plans, respond to incidents, verify corrective actions, and ensure contractor compliance with a target of zero recordable incidents across managed sites.
  • Manage commissioning, punch-list resolution, and handover to operations; coordinate commissioning with contractors, equipment vendors, and internal operations, and assemble turnover packages meeting contract and operational requirements.
  • Build and maintain tracking and reporting systems for reliable budget, schedule, and forecasting data.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and develop process or policy recommendations; provide feedback to development, pre-construction, and other internal groups to improve future projects.
  • Direct general contractors, coordinate with utilities and equipment vendors, manage commissioning, drive project closeout, and represent the company with contractors, landowners, authorities having jurisdiction, and other external stakeholders.
  • Onboard and develop new construction managers and other construction team members, delegate project work, provide direct feedback, and transition responsibility as team members demonstrate readiness.
  • Travel extensively and regularly to active project sites across all five New York City boroughs.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working with New York City agencies (Department of Buildings, Fire Department of the City of New York, Department of Environmental Protection, and Office of Technical Certification and Research) and Con Edison in complex interconnection environments.
  • Experience with battery energy storage system or broader renewable energy projects.
  • Professional Engineer license, Project Management Professional certification, or Certified Construction Manager certification.

Orenda closes growth equity investment from Ultra Capital.

Orenda closes growth equity investment from Ultra Capital. Investment to expand distributed battery storage in New York. New York, NY, July 15, 2026 - Orenda, a New York-based renewable energy developer, today announced the closing of a growth equity investment from Ultra Capital, an investment firm focused on sustainable infrastructure and energy transition. The investment will support Orenda's strategy to scale the deployment of distributed battery storage across New York City and the downstate region. New York City's grid is strained. High demand, limited transmission, and constrained generation have raised power prices, blocked new load, and left little reserve margin during peak demand or outages. Orenda's distributed battery storage addresses this directly, adding reliability and flexibility to the grid while lowering costs across the system. With strong state and city policy behind clean energy and grid resilience, New York City is one of the most attractive battery storage markets in the country right now. "Grid infrastructure is aging, energy costs are rising, and battery manufacturing is ramping up fast across the country. Those forces are converging right now," said Bill Grinstead, Chief Executive Officer of Orenda. "Ultra Capital brings deep experience in energy infrastructure and a track record of scaling operating platforms. This investment lets us expand the capabilities of our team and move faster to bring battery storage online across New York City." In conjunction with its investment, Mike Reynolds, Partner at Ultra Capital, has joined Orenda's Board of Directors. "Orenda has assembled a highly experienced team with a strong track record in project development, execution, and navigating complex urban power markets," said Reynolds. "The company's growing pipeline and disciplined approach position it to establish market-leading intellectual property in distributed battery storage. We believe Orenda is uniquely positioned to build and scale a best-in-class platform for deploying batteries at the distribution level in urban environments, and we are excited to support the team's next phase of growth." About Orenda Orenda develops, builds, owns, and operates battery energy storage projects in dense urban environments, with a development pipeline of 920 MW and 2.7 GWh across Downstate New York. Founded in 2020, the company pairs this infrastructure with proprietary asset management technology to close the gap between renewable generation and electricity demand. Orenda's mission is to make the grid more resilient and sustainable in Downstate New York. About Ultra Capital Ultra Capital provides equity capital to best-in-class management teams focused on the energy transition. Orenda invest growth equity and asset capital in companies with a successful track record of deploying demonstrated solutions in various sectors including solar, battery storage, distributed generation, EV charging, and fleet electrification. Orenda bring value to its partnerships through its experience as former developers, constructors, operators, and financiers of infrastructure assets.
