Requirements
  • Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
  • Maintains current New York State licensure and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification with continuing education credits as required.
Responsibilities
  • Sets up and utilizes all MRI equipment including imaging coils, patient monitoring systems, and related articles.
  • Evaluate image quality by troubleshooting scanner or coil problems and scan parameters.
  • Identifies and compensates for imaging artifacts.
  • Reviews MRI registration and screening form thoroughly in order to confirm safe access into magnet room.
  • Assists in training new MRI technologists and students.
  • Performing all filming, archiving and Picture Archiving and Communications System network data management for each patient scanned.
  • Retrieves old MRI data for restoration and filming or networking.
  • Master new techniques with each subsequent scanner upgrade.
  • Maintains continuing education credits and ARRT/NYS license.
  • Communicates all pertinent patient information to necessary staff.
  • Identifies patient service requirements.
  • Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed.
  • Prepares patient for radiological/Magnetic Resonance Imaging procedures by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Performs procedures by following and verifying referring provider orders.
  • Applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures.
  • Produces high quality images and prepares/presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate documentation. Maintains production and quality of MRI images by following established standards, orders, protocols and procedures
  • Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors by adhering to Magnetic Resonance Imaging safety policies specific to our MRI Zones Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements.
  • Troubleshoots and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day to day work activities.
Desired Qualifications
  • Band Two requires a minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience in a clinical or hospital environment with at least 6 months dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department, certification in Magnetic Resonance Imaging, and capable of performing all MRI competencies including but not limited to: cardiac, breast, interventional and functional MR if applicable.
  • Band Three requires a minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in MRI in a clinical or hospital environment with 1 year dedicated to the URMC Imaging Sciences Department preferred.
  • Technologists must be certified in MRI and satisfy the requirements and be capable of performing all MRI related duties of a Band Two Certified MRI Technologist.
  • Readiness for movement in the bands is assessed by the MRI manager and MRI supervisor upon successful demonstration of knowledge and task proficiency as defined in the career ladder.
  • Movement to a higher band is based on departmental need requires final approval from the Imaging Sciences Clinical Director of Operations in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Employees hired externally with appropriate credentials and relevant experience may enter the career bands as a Band Three to serve in a Lead role if the need exists within the department.
