Requirements
  • Completion of a post-secondary certificate or college diploma program in a related field of study, Children/Children, or completion of two or three post-secondary academic years.
  • Bilingual ability in English and Korean.
  • Ability and willingness to provide valid Safe Food Handlers Certification and First Aid/CPR Certification.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License, personal vehicle, and insurance.
  • Minimum of two years of prior related experience working with children and children’s programming.
  • Ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds without assistance and perform frequent reaching, bending, and stooping.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends with scheduling flexibility.
  • Ability to create Easy Worship and other visual and multimedia presentations, and to learn and use technology and processes quickly.
  • Conflict management and resolution skills.
  • Ability to communicate with, motivate, train, and empower children’s ministry volunteers.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and exercise sound judgment.
  • Ability to compose, proofread, and edit letters, memoranda, advertisements, publications, and email.
  • Ability to work independently and as an active, responsible team member.
  • Ability and willingness to successfully complete applicable screening and background checks, including a vulnerable-sector search.
  • Willingness to become a member of Korean Community Church and support, teach, promote, communicate, and model The Salvation Army’s Christian doctrine, mission, purpose, and policies.
  • Ability to comply with Ontario occupational health and safety legislation and The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
  • Provide oversight for children’s outreach and programs serving children ages 0 to 14 in the church and community.
  • Contribute to children’s spiritual development through mentoring, discipleship, encouragement, and modeling Christ-like attitudes and behaviors.
  • Pray with children and family members and lead them toward faith in Jesus Christ.
  • Follow up with children and parents or guardians regarding spiritual decisions, build relationships, and connect children with the church and its ministries.
  • Build relationships with children and families connected to Community Services and encourage volunteers to do the same.
  • Provide pastoral care and oversight for children’s ministries as a member of the church’s Pastoral Team.
  • Coordinate, maintain, and redesign children’s programming, including worship, small groups, fellowship, discipleship, and special events.
  • Oversee the development, organization, and mobilization of a comprehensive outreach ministry connecting children and families with Community Services ministries.
  • Develop and organize outreach to schools and neighborhood organizations.
  • Promote, support, and participate in Divisional and Territorial children’s events.
  • Work with the Ministry Unit Leader to prepare and deliver children’s worship services and events.
  • Attend Sunday worship services and participate as a member of the Korean Community Church congregation.
  • Recruit, supervise, orient, support, and train volunteer leaders for children’s discipleship programs.
  • Develop strategies and recommendations for volunteer development.
  • Prepare, post, and maintain volunteer schedules to ensure adequate coverage for program functions.
  • Ensure volunteer screening requirements are completed, including police checks, required work-with-children forms, and online abuse-prevention training.
  • Handle volunteer complaints and incident reports.
  • Prepare and maintain activity records, logs, reports, and statistical information.
  • Assist with maintaining volunteer files and statistical records.
  • Design and draft promotional material for Korean Community Church programs, subject to supervisory approval.
  • Participate in developing and implementing children’s program policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with volunteers, congregants, families, and staff using empathetic communication.
  • Maintain frequent communication with children and families in person, by phone, email, social media, and website.
  • Create social media advertisements and videos, post to social media platforms, and develop online communications.
  • Inform the Ministry Unit Leader of concerns or issues promptly.
  • Maintain program storage areas and keep them updated, safe, and organized.
  • Maintain Safe Food Handling Certification and pursue continuing education in food safety and health standards.
  • Perform required cleanup duties after events and other related duties.
  • Travel occasionally to pick up supplies and attend community meetings.
