About the company

Chevron is one of the world's largest integrated energy companies, finding and producing oil and natural gas and refining it into fuels, lubricants and chemicals sold worldwide. It traces its roots to Standard Oil, and its largest projects include the Tengiz oil field in Kazakhstan and a large Permian Basin position. Its upstream arm drills wells and runs liquefied natural gas projects, while its downstream arm operates refineries and supplies Chevron, Texaco and Caltex stations. It earns money selling crude oil, natural gas and refined products, and it is building gas-fired power plants for data centers. Chevron was founded in 1879 and is based in Houston, Texas.

What believers are saying

  • Profits are strong: earnings reported in July 2026 reached $12.1 billion as production rose 20% on Hess assets.
  • Graduates build breadth: in the Philippines, its IT Horizons program rotates hires through three IT roles.
  • The Hess deal paid off fast: by July 2026, Chevron captured $1.5 billion in annual synergies within a year.

What critics are saying

  • Cost cutting continues: Chevron is pushing for up to $4 billion in structural savings by the end of 2026.
  • Its Venezuela growth rides on politics: a $7 billion expansion in September 2026 followed a U.S.-Venezuela oil deal.
  • The power bet is unproven: as of June 2026, Kilby awaited a final investment decision, with power targeted for 2028.

What makes Chevron unique

  • Few rivals match its U.S. scale: Q2 2026 set records for U.S. oil and gas output and refining throughput.
  • It now sells power, not just fuel: a June 2026 deal supplies Microsoft's West Texas data center with 2.67 gigawatts.
  • It keeps a rare Venezuela foothold: its joint ventures there pump about 280,000 barrels of oil a day.

Diesel at $6.20 a gallon: Marathon leads five energy stocks set to gain

US diesel prices averaged $6.199 a gallon for the week of October 5, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said. That is down from a 2026 peak of $6.529 in late September but more than $2.50 above a year ago. A disruption to Strait of Hormuz shipping earlier this year cut global refined fuel exports. Refiners gain most. Marathon Petroleum's refining margin doubled to $36.33 a barrel in the second quarter, from $17.58 a year earlier. Integrated majors also benefit. Chevron's downstream earnings rose to $4.9 billion from $737 million, while ExxonMobil's refining and fuels earnings reached $4.1 billion, nearly double a year earlier. Pipeline firms Energy Transfer and Enterprise Products Partners earn mostly fees, so they get little direct lift. The EIA expects prices to stay high through October before easing.

Chevron, DRDGOLD and Brown-Forman offer 3%+ dividend yields as Treasury yields near 5%

With long-term US Treasury yields near 5%, investors are weighing how to earn income without giving up equity upside. A Simply Wall St screen highlights three dividend stocks yielding above 3%: Chevron, DRDGOLD, and Brown-Forman. Chevron, an integrated energy group, has a market value of about $435.6 billion. It reports roughly $82.5 billion in US revenue and $78.8 billion internationally in its downstream business, and its upstream arm adds about $52.6 billion domestically and $55.1 billion abroad. DRDGOLD retreats gold tailings in South Africa. It has a market value of around $2.1 billion, a 38.1% net profit ratio, and a price-to-earnings ratio of 8.4x. Brown-Forman, maker of Jack Daniel's, earns about $3.9 billion from beverage alcohol products and is valued near $13.1 billion.

CFOs at Chevron, ServiceNow and Nasdaq say AI must earn capital; ServiceNow targets $500M savings

Chevron, ServiceNow and Nasdaq finance chiefs say AI projects must prove their worth before getting funded. They spoke on a panel at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit in Santa Barbara on Tuesday. Chevron's chief financial officer, Eimear Bonner, said AI "has got to compete for capital" and cannot be "a science experiment." She wants a clear path to value and results that reach the bottom line. ServiceNow's Gina Mastantuno said CFOs must also weigh the cost of falling behind rivals. The company expects $500 million in savings this year, largely from using its own products. Nasdaq's Sarah Youngwood sorts investments by time horizon and tracks AI metrics such as coding speed, client retention and token costs.

Chevron beats Coca-Cola as 20-year dividend pick: 51% payout vs 77%, $18.1B free cash flow

Chevron is the better dividend stock to hold for 20 years, according to an analysis by TIKR, which compared it with Coca-Cola. Chevron yields 3.4% against Coca-Cola's 2.5%. It raised its dividend 5.8% a year from fiscal 2020 to fiscal 2025, versus 4.5% for Coca-Cola. Chevron's dividend takes 51% of free cash flow, against 77% for Coca-Cola, whose free cash flow fell short of its dividend in fiscal 2024 and 2025. Chevron's net debt is 0.56x EBITDA, against 1.6x for Coca-Cola. At those growth rates, $10,000 in Chevron would pay about $12,240 over 20 years, against about $7,812 for Coca-Cola. The main risk is oil prices. Chevron's 2030 targets assume lower commodity prices than today's.

In FY 2025, Chevron's revenue fell about 4.6% to nearly $184.4 billion, with net income near $12.3 billion and free cash flow of about $16.6 billion. Occidental's revenue dropped about 20.3% to nearly $21.6 billion, with net income of about $2.4 billion and free cash flow near $4.1 billion. Occidental has the edge on valuation, with a forward P/E of 9.4x against Chevron's 12.7x. It also posted a five-year average operating margin of 38%, versus 16.5% for Chevron. Chevron offers a 3.4% dividend yield and 39 straight years of increases. Occidental yields 1.8%.
