Required Skills
Software Testing
Requirements
  • Hands-on experience designing and/or testing complex software-dependent electromechanical products (e.g., aerospace, automotive, robotics)
  • Hands-on experience creating and operating a test stand as part of a product test program
  • Demonstrated leadership (formal as a manager and/or strategic as an IC) in execution of a product development test program
  • Sufficient working knowledge of robotics disciplines to communicate effectively with electrical, mechanical, software, manufacturing, quality, and test engineers.
  • Familiarity with common environmental test methods including thermal and shock and vibe.
Responsibilities
  • Map the lay of the land through discussions with leaders across the project and propose a testing program to increase our understanding of Stretch and boost our organizational maturity.
  • Define a roadmap to achieve that vision including process/organizational changes, budgeting, and workforce planning.
  • Work with systems engineers on your team to document test plans across both the maturity (prototype, alpha, beta) and complexity (component, subsystem, system) dimensions.
  • Guide electrical engineers to define and document bring-up and verification test plans for compute, power supply, and motor drive PCBAs.
  • Guide mechanical engineers to define and document bring-up and verification test plans for actuators, dynamic cable assemblies, and bearings.
  • Guide product managers and systems engineers to ensure requirements are testable and complete.
  • Guide software engineers to define features required for hardware and system testing.
  • Participate in testing activities as you see fit, not limited to writing test plans, executing benchtop testing, holding review meetings, and traveling to off-site test labs.
  • Work with program and project managers to communicate testing schedule, status, and risks.

Boston Dynamics creates advanced robots that enhance human capabilities and safety, focusing on legged robots with high mobility, dexterity, and intelligence. Their flagship products, Spot and Pick, are designed for commercial, industrial, and research applications, performing tasks that are dangerous or physically demanding for humans. Spot, for example, is a 65-pound robot that can navigate complex terrains and avoid obstacles autonomously using built-in AI. Unlike many competitors, Boston Dynamics emphasizes responsible use of their robots, limiting sales to commercial and research clients and ensuring high-quality standards through domestic manufacturing. The company's goal is to improve safety and efficiency across various industries while exploring future consumer applications.
