About the company

Fluidstack provides large clusters of GPU servers to AI labs training advanced models, and it builds custom data centers for customers that outgrow existing facilities. In 2025, Anthropic chose Fluidstack to build data centers in Texas and New York as part of a $50 billion investment in American AI infrastructure. Labs pay for dedicated clusters of Nvidia GPUs, sometimes tens of thousands of chips, housed in partner data centers around the world. They reach the clusters through a web console or API, while Fluidstack runs the hardware, networking, and day-to-day operations. Fluidstack was founded in London in 2017 and has its headquarters in New York.

What believers are saying

  • Equity has grown fast: a September 2026 round valued Fluidstack at $18 billion, up from $7.5 billion earlier that year.
  • Customers are paying, not just investors: revenue tripled from $66 million in 2024 to $200 million in 2025.
  • Room to grow: 247 open roles in October 2026, nearly half in Austin, include leaders for its Arizona factory.

What critics are saying

  • Its key customer went around it: Anthropic signed a $19 billion lease directly with its landlord TeraWulf in July 2026.
  • Each sale earns little: after direct costs, it kept 11% of 2024 revenue, down from 24% a year earlier.
  • Expect long, in-person days: 246 of 247 job posts say staff work "long hours at high intensity"; 83% are on-site.

What makes FluidStack unique

  • It hosts TPUs, Google's own alternative to Nvidia chips, in New York under a deal reported in September 2025.
  • Google guarantees billions of Fluidstack's rent, including $3.2 billion at bitcoin miner TeraWulf and $1.4 billion at Cipher.
  • It holds first rights to up to 1,000 more megawatts in future phases of bitcoin miner Hut 8's Louisiana campus.

Neoclouds explained: GPU providers behind the AI boom face a $3.5T impairment risk

Neoclouds, specialist providers that rent out GPU capacity for AI training and inference, have gone from unknown startups to listed companies with contracts worth billions of dollars. CoreWeave, Nebius and IREN lead the listed group; Lambda, Crusoe and Fluidstack remain private. Their shares fell hard in October 2026. CoreWeave dropped 29%, leaving it valued at about $34 billion against a 2025 peak of about $90 billion; Nebius fell 27% and IREN 32%. CoreWeave's unsecured debt yielded about 15%. On October 14, 2026, Gartner predicted that more than 80% of neocloud providers will stop operating independently by 2030. It also warned that more than $3.5 trillion of AI infrastructure spending could face impairment. Demand remains strong. CoreWeave co-founder Brannin McBee said nearly all of its 2027 capacity is sold.

Cipher Digital expands Barber Lake Lease term to 20 years, increasing revenue to over $9 billion.

Cipher Digital expands Barber Lake Lease term to 20 years, increasing revenue to over $9 billion. Additional 10-year term adds ~$5.2 billion of contracted revenue at Barber Lake. NEW YORK, Sept. 25, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - Cipher Digital Inc. (NASDAQ: CIFR) ("Cipher" or the "Company"), a leading developer, owner, and operator of industrial-scale data centers, today announced a series of agreements that extend the contracted lease duration of its Barber Lake data center in Colorado City, Texas from 10 years to 20 years and increase total contracted revenue at the facility from $3.8 billion to over $9 billion. Cipher has executed an amendment to its existing lease with Fluidstack (the "Barber Lake Lease") that is coupled with a binding commitment with a leading AI lab to lease the facility for an additional 10-year term following the conclusion of the Barber Lake Lease. The additional 10-year commitment with the leading AI lab, which will be governed by a separate lease containing economic terms substantially consistent with the Barber Lake Lease, is expected to generate approximately $5.2 billion of incremental contracted revenue. In connection with change orders and the continued evolution of tenant requirements at Barber Lake, the lease amendment establishes a phased delivery schedule for the site, with individual data halls expected to be delivered from the fourth quarter of 2026 through the first quarter of 2027. Rent will commence for each data hall as it is delivered, with the first rent commencement expected in the fourth quarter of 2026. Cipher remains on track with the revised delivery schedule. In connection with the amendment and the change orders, the Company, Fluidstack and the leading AI lab established a cost reimbursement framework, pursuant to which the Company will bear the first $359.3 million of costs in excess of the initial budgeted amount under the Barber Lake Lease. The tenant will reimburse the Company over the aggregate twenty-year term for 50% of any such costs above that amount, payable as additional rent and calculated in a manner to provide Cipher with a contracted rate of return on such reimbursed amounts. "Extending Barber Lake's contracted life from 10 to 20 years and adding approximately $5.2 billion of contracted revenue reflects the enduring value of the infrastructure we're building," said Tyler Page, Chief Executive Officer. "Barber Lake was designed as a long-lived, mission-critical asset, and securing a firm commitment that extends well beyond the original lease term demonstrates the long-term utility and strategic relevance of the campus. We believe this transaction underscores the quality and enduring strength of our sites, as well as the durability of demand for hyperscale computing capacity." About Cipher Cipher develops and operates industrial-scale data centers engineered for next-generation computing at the highest standards of innovation, precision, and excellence. Fluidstack starts $4 billion Texas AI campus phase planned for 1.5 GW.

Fluidstack starts $4 billion Texas AI campus phase planned for 1.5 GW. By Wolfie Zhao Fluidstack said it has begun construction on a $4 billion first phase of an AI data center campus in Cameron County, Texas, with plans to support up to 1.5 gigawatts of capacity as the state tightens oversight of the industry's power and water use. The company said in a Monday post that it expects the development to create more than 2,500 construction jobs and several hundred permanent positions. The announcement did not identify a customer or detail financing for the first phase. The campus will occupy more than 1,100 acres near Rio Hondo, east of Valley International Airport and west of the Port of Harlingen. Fluidstack's project website targets completion of the first phase by mid-2028, with further phases under consideration but unconfirmed. The county's authorization so far covers preliminary work. Cameron County said on September 10 that it had issued a worksite permit allowing activities such as land clearing, grading, utility installation and drainage infrastructure. Separate permits will be required before construction of the buildings can begin. Fluidstack's update coincided with a new statewide permitting restriction. Governor Greg Abbott on September 21 directed the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to halt permits sought by data centers pending completion of an Electric Reliability Council of Texas audit. His office said state agencies should not advance regulatory approvals until information needed to assess grid and water impacts is available. The directive did not identify the Cameron County campus specifically or establish whether its existing site-work authorization would be affected. Fluidstack said it would participate in state utility and grid audits, but its announcement did not address the new permitting halt. The company pledged to cover energy, infrastructure and water costs and said it had neither sought nor received local property tax abatements or county incentives. Cameron County separately confirmed it is providing no tax abatement. "We'll pay for the campus's energy, infrastructure and water. No infrastructure or energy costs will pass to the community," Fluidstack said in the update. Fluidstack plans to recirculate cooling water in a closed loop, with replenishment after the initial fill limited to maintenance and repairs. East Rio Hondo Water Supply Corporation will supply that water. The company's project website also says it is developing on-site generation to reduce demand on the ERCOT grid. The development adds to Fluidstack's expansion as an infrastructure provider for AI companies. Anthropic announced a $50 billion investment in US computing infrastructure in November 2025, including custom data centers being built with Fluidstack in Texas and New York.
