- Demonstrates clinical radiation oncology knowledge of daily linear accelerator treatments, daily quality assurance, computerized treatment planning including three-dimensional and intensity-modulated radiation therapy, simulation, and low-dose-rate brachytherapy.
- Demonstrates excellent written and oral communication skills, a mathematical and computer background, strong organizational skills, and proficiency in prioritizing assignments.
- Maintains knowledge of the radiation and geometric characteristics of diagnostic and radiation therapy equipment and radioactive sources commonly utilized in the hospital and radiation therapy center.
- Maintains regular, consistent, and punctual attendance at the assigned job location.
- Has a Master's or PhD in medical physics or a related field.
- Is certified in Therapeutic Radiological Physics or by the American Board of Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology Physics.
- Maintains certification in the American Board of Radiology and/or the American Board of Medical Physics.
- Maintains active membership in the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.
- Operates and maintains all therapeutic equipment.
- Serves as an advisor to the Bay Area Hospital Radiation Safety Officer.
- Requires extensive sitting with periodic standing and walking.
- May be required to lift up to 20 pounds.
- Requires significant use of a personal computer, telephone, and general office equipment.
- Needs adequate visual acuity and the ability to grasp and handle objects.
- Needs the ability to communicate effectively through reading, writing, and speaking in person or on the telephone.
- May require off-site travel.
- Five years of experience as a staff medical physicist with demonstrated experience in radiation oncology.
- New graduates with two years of experience are highly encouraged to apply.
- Preference for occupying a Radiation Safety Officer role in addition to Medical Physics.
