About the job
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school, or verifiable applicable work experience in a patient care setting, is required.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification is required.
- If hired after January 1, 2015, current certification as a medical assistant from an accepted certifying agency is required within six months of hire.
- The role requires knowledge and skills to provide care and assess data appropriate to the age-specific needs of assigned patients.
- The role requires compliance with medical, legal, patient-rights, regulatory, accrediting, infection-control, safety, and organizational policies.
- Provide patient care under the direction and supervision of a physician or Advanced Practice Provider in an ambulatory care setting.
- Gather patient data through interviews and observation.
- Assist patients and families with preparation for examinations.
- Assist physicians or Advanced Practice Providers during examinations and procedures.
- Document treatments, procedures, and patient education according to organizational and department policies.
- Act as a patient liaison by scheduling specialty testing and physician consultations and providing scheduling information.
- Process incoming and outgoing calls independently and professionally using clinical judgment.
- Enter medication, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging orders into the electronic medical system under provider direction.
- Participate in Quality Assurance and Quality Indicator activities as assigned.
- Use supplies efficiently.
- Assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and patient discharge as needed.
- Collaborate with administrative and operations staff and communicate professionally with patients and families.
- Maintain punctual attendance and compliance with organizational policies and applicable legal standards.
- Gynecology-specific experience is preferred but not required.
