Requirements
  • An MD with College Certification in Internal Medicine is required.
  • The physician must be licensed in Nova Scotia.
  • Evidence of past and ongoing leadership training is required.
Responsibilities
  • Ensure department members comply with the bylaws, rules, and regulations of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
  • Hold regular department meetings and provide meeting minutes to the Zone Medical Executive Director.
  • Attend relevant committee meetings as assigned by the Medical Executive Director.
  • Work with Specialty Site Leads to maintain service continuity through department scheduling practices, including vacation requests, on-call scheduling, and locum utilization.
  • Participate in monitoring department standards, quality, and resource utilization within the zone.
  • Provide performance management for all department members.
  • Manage complaints and discipline for department members.
  • Support the department's research agenda.
  • Participate in clinical services planning for the zone and Nova Scotia Health Authority.
  • Lead recruitment and retention for the department within the zone.
  • Ensure new-hire and onboarding processes are completed with support from the Specialty Site Lead as required.
  • Participate in leadership development.
