In this technical role, you will be at the center of our silicon design group responsible for the wireless systems design of our innovative wireless SoC products. You will have the chance to create algorithms & architectures of wireless communication systems, as well as collaborate with extraordinary HW, SW designers & architects to implement, verify, validate and bring up SoC products to production quality, providing them to millions of Apple customers!

Minimum Qualifications

BS and 10+ years of relevant experience.
Experience in crafting signal processing and wireless communications systems
Strong understanding of WiFi MAC layer protocol and algorithm design (such as EDCA mechanism, OFDMA and MU MIMO MAC layer protocol, multi-user scheduling algorithm etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in modem architecture, microprocessor architecture, hardware and software control.
Experience of SoC design and validation to support wireless communication system.
Working knowledge of WiFi systems and hands-on experience with lab testing and characterization.
Knowledge in existing wireless communication protocols, such as 5G/LTE/WCDMA/GSM, 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax/be, 802.11ad/ay or Bluetooth/BLE.
Experience on low-power algorithm design for power critical application.
Experience with multi-radio coexistence management.
Experience with Python and/or C/C++ for algorithm development, modeling, and simulation.
Experience with network simulator such as OPNET, NS2 or NS3 is a plus.
Experience on bring up of real silicon in lab and being able to efficiently use lab equipment (such as spectrum analyzer, signal generator, power meter, etc.).
Advanced degree in EE or Computer Engineering; MS or Ph.D preferred

Description

In this role, core responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: • Designing and simulating wireless communication systems for very high data rate applications focusing on MAC layer system design and optimizations. • Analyzing and improving the efficiency of wireless MAC layer protocols, focusing on throughput, latency and overall network performance. • Implementing MAC system models and investigating algorithms for performance enhancements, design and validate them to allow performance sign-off and enable system developments. Defining the control procedures of the MAC layer hardware modules to achieve robust and optimal performance throughput and latency. • Collaborating with PHY system team and cross-functional teams to integrate MAC layer algorithms into system architecture • Collaborating with firmware designers to realize these methods with high efficiency software implementation and possibly with using hardware acceleration. • Bringing up, testing, characterizing and optimizing real silicon in the lab. • Documenting design processes and performance outcomes, providing detailed reports and insights for continuous improvements.

Pay & Benefits

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,800 and $312,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
