Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in business, healthcare or a related field, or equivalent years of experience and education.
  • Three years of experience.
  • One of the following professional certifications is required: Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician-based (CCS-P), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
  • Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 0-25 pounds.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, reach, and perform repetitive foot, leg, hand, and arm movements.
  • Ability to frequently use vision and depth perception at near and far distances and distinguish colors.
  • Ability to frequently use hearing and speech for oral communication and hear alarms or malfunctioning machinery.
  • Ability to frequently use a keyboard and perform data entry.
  • Ability to occasionally bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, and grip.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing 25-50 pounds.
  • Ability to rarely climb.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and coordinate the delivery of coding educational programs.
  • Promote consistency and accuracy of coding and documentation practices.
  • Act as a liaison for coding questions and concerns between providers, coding, corporate responsibility, and educational departments.
  • Drive optimal clinical and financial outcomes by assessing provider documentation and coding competency, identifying improvement opportunities, and developing and delivering training and education on coding processes.
  • Stay abreast of regulatory changes and work with leadership to ensure compliance and revenue integrity.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for providers and coders by providing guidance and clarification on issues arising in daily account processing.
  • Establish and coordinate internal quality review processes and corresponding training for providers and coders.
  • Evaluate provider documentation for clarity, completeness, and consistency to ensure optimal code selection.
  • Provide education to providers on coding guidelines, practices, and documentation techniques.
  • Audit provider documentation to identify opportunities or risks.
  • Develop provider education based on audit findings and needs.
  • Maintain clear and consistent communication with coding and corporate responsibility regarding education and directions provided to providers and coders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
