Requirements
  • A Missouri Certified Nursing Assistant license, prior experience as a Nurse Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician, Surgical Technician, Patient Care Technician, or Behavioral Health Technician, or enrollment in a Nursing program with completion of Fundamentals of Nursing is required.
  • Completion of a state-approved unlicensed assist personnel program, fulfillment of exempted unlicensed assist personnel guidelines with documented proof, or enrollment in the employer's unlicensed assist personnel program upon hire is required.
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • No experience is required.
  • The position requires constant standing and walking; frequent oral communication, hearing, lifting or carrying and pushing or pulling objects weighing 0–25 pounds, reaching, gripping, keyboard use or data entry, and near and distance vision; and occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, repetitive movements, lifting or carrying and pushing or pulling objects weighing 25–50 pounds, moving patients, smell-based detection of odors, and driving.
Responsibilities
  • Receive patient-care assignments from the registered nurse in charge and initiate delegated nursing tasks within demonstrated competence for the patient age group served.
  • Collect and document data for admission assessments, reassessments, appointments, or surgeries, and provide relevant data to registered nurses or licensed practical nurses for analysis and validation.
  • Inform licensed nurses of changes in patient condition or needs, patient complaints, and patient or significant-other education needs.
  • Stock and maintain supplies and equipment according to patient-care needs and cost-containment practices.
  • Answer telephones, relay messages, transcribe physician orders, and prepare and organize patient medical records as delegated clerical duties.
  • Answer inpatient calls for help; take vital signs; monitor behavior and physical condition; assist with bathing, ambulation, feeding, skin care, personal and oral hygiene, bed-making, dressing changes, enemas, ostomy care, toileting, turning, cough and deep-breathing exercises, catheter care, biological specimen collection, and measurement and recording of fluid intake and output.
  • Prepare inpatients for discharge and accompany them upon dismissal when indicated; orient new patients and significant others to the nursing unit.
  • Manage referrals for medical and surgical specialist appointments in an outpatient environment and assist with care for patients aged three years or older.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform point-of-care testing according to applicable policies and procedures.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
