Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is preferred; a master's degree in nursing or healthcare administration is a plus.
  • A minimum of 3 years of infusion or oncology nursing experience is required; 2 or more years of leadership experience is preferred.
  • Strong clinical understanding of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and biologic therapies is required.
  • Advanced knowledge of electronic medical record systems, barcode medication administration, and smart pumps is required.
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies and standards including the Oncology Nursing Society, Infusion Nurses Society, United States Pharmacopeia, and The Joint Commission is required.
  • An Oncology Certified Nurse, Certified Registered Nurse Infusion, or equivalent infusion-related certification is required.
  • Registered Nurse licensure is required.
Responsibilities
  • Manage day-to-day infusion operations, including nurse staffing, chair utilization, treatment schedules, and patient flow.
  • Directly supervise infusion nurses, charge nurses, and medical assistants working in the infusion area.
  • Ensure compliance with United States Pharmacopeia chapters 797 and 800, Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Guidelines, and Infusion Nurses Society Standards of Practice.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy, oncology providers, and laboratory services to optimize pre-visit workflows, including laboratory tests, authorizations, and pre-medication orders.
  • Implement safety protocols for hazardous drug handling, personal protective equipment usage, spill management, and chemotherapy verification.
  • Facilitate annual competency assessments for staff on venous access devices, infusion calculations, and emergency response.
  • Maintain infusion suite readiness for internal and external audits, including The Joint Commission and state pharmacy boards.
  • Partner with scheduling teams to build and manage infusion templates aligned with drug preparation times, acuity, and registered nurse availability.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives focused on treatment start time, dwell time, chair utilization, and error reduction.
  • Address infusion reactions and adverse events, and develop staff response pathways such as anaphylaxis protocols.
