Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.
  • Hold Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification.
  • Complete the competency assessment.
  • Successfully complete Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Have at least 1 year of required Trauma, Robotics, and/or Cardiovascular Certified Surgical Technologist work experience.
  • Have current Certified Surgical Technologist work experience.
  • Have consistent work history without sporadic employment.
  • Be available for weekend and holiday call and respond to calls within 30 minutes.
Responsibilities
  • Provide care according to standards of care.
  • Prioritize care.
  • Perform technical procedures safely, proficiently, and within the scope of practice.
  • Adapt care measures to reflect age-specific and developmental considerations.
  • Follow hand-washing and infection-control guidelines.
  • Perform surgical scrubs according to policy.
  • Verify that the correct sterilization method is used for specific instruments and equipment.
  • Perform the surgical time-out procedure, including confirmation of the correct patient and surgical site.
  • Perform accurate sharp, sponge, and instrument counts at appropriate times and document them.
  • Ensure laboratory and pathology specimens are labeled correctly on the surgical field.
  • Verify proper medication dosages and routes with the registered nurse.
  • Label all medications on the sterile field.
  • Assist with environmental sanitation in operating-room suites.
  • Support team members and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Use positive, one-on-one, first-party communication.
  • Participate in training and orientation for Patient Care Associates, Certified Surgical Technologists, and healthcare-discipline students.
  • Follow scheduling guidelines.
  • Use the time card to punch in and out correctly and consistently.
  • Accept or negotiate assignment changes to facilitate quality care delivery.
  • Stock rooms so they are clean and ready for new patients.
  • Return equipment to the appropriate storage area.
  • Answer pages for room turnover or patient-lifting assistance when not assigned to a specific operating-room suite.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
