Requirements
  • Experience as a registered nurse and licensure in the State of Washington.
  • Licensure as a psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner with more than five years of experience providing psychiatric services.
  • Bicultural background or capability.
  • Bilingual Spanish and English language skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before clients or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out written, oral, or diagram-form instructions.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Maintain an annual tuberculosis test.
  • Obtain Basic Life Support cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification within 90 days of hire and maintain current certification throughout employment.
  • Sign an oath of permanent confidentiality covering patient-related information.
  • Pass a Washington State Department of Social and Health Services and Washington State Patrol background check.
  • Comply with Sea Mar and Washington State Department of Health ethical standards.
  • Have no history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for three years immediately before employment and no misuse while employed.
  • Receive the required annual influenza vaccine, unless granted an approved medical or religious exemption; employees with an approved exemption must wear a mask throughout flu season.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct face-to-face psychiatric evaluations to determine psychiatric diagnoses.
  • Provide ongoing medication review services to assess the effects of prescribed medication.
  • Consult with Behavioral Health clinical staff and Sea Mar medical clinic providers regarding cases, diagnoses, medications, and other treatment considerations.
  • Maintain phone availability for emergency medication reviews, medication-effect questions, and prescription refills.
  • Consult by phone with Sea Mar physicians so they can prescribe initial medications until clients receive face-to-face psychiatric or medication reviews.
  • Document psychiatric evaluations, medication reviews, and other client contacts in patient charts.
  • Maintain a psychiatric medication chart, copy prescriptions, and obtain all necessary medication consent signatures.
  • Provide care appropriate to the ages of patients served, including infants, adolescents, and geriatric patients.
  • Work collaboratively with staff as part of a coordinated, team-based care model.
Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge and experience working with Hispanics, migrant and seasonal farm workers, and homeless individuals is preferred.
  • Certification as a minority Mental Health Specialist as prescribed by Washington Administrative Code is preferred.
