About the job

Requirements
  • Experience conducting data management, cleaning, and analysis using original survey data.
  • Strong skills in R.
  • Experience contributing to original research or program evaluation projects, including developing analytic plans, documenting methods, and interpreting findings.
  • A master’s degree with major coursework in the field of assignment, plus at least three years of related experience; additional related experience may substitute for the required education.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, think analytically and critically, manage projects and organize work, solve problems, attend to details, synthesize complex concepts in writing, learn new topics quickly, multitask, meet time constraints, and adapt to changing timelines and circumstances.
  • Demonstrated understanding and support for diversity, equity, and inclusion, and commitment to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Responsibilities
  • Contribute to developing research questions, study designs, analytic plans, and methodological approaches for original research and evaluation projects.
  • Manage survey data cleaning and preparation, including guiding data collection and testing, supporting analytic-plan and timeline development, implementing quality-assurance protocols and detailed documentation, and constructing clean, validated analytic datasets.
  • Contribute to developing, programming, testing, and refining surveys, including reviewing measures, response options, skip logic, and data structures for alignment with research questions and analytic plans.
  • Work independently with messy, real-world data and use judgment to resolve data-quality, missing-data, and documentation issues so analytic datasets are defensible.
  • Acquire, manage, and analyze raw datasets, including administrative data from state agencies and national longitudinal sources such as Census; merge, clean, and prepare datasets for analysis and assess representativeness.
  • Interpret data, independently select and apply appropriate statistical tests, analyze results, and provide ongoing reports.
  • Contribute to and/or lead written products and academic publications that translate policy research and analysis results into actionable insights for stakeholders and state policymakers.
  • Ensure methodological quality, validity, and integrity in research analyses through rigorous analytic approaches, appropriate assumptions and interpretation, and careful documentation.
  • Communicate project progress, key decisions, and emerging issues to project staff.
  • Lead management of data processes, including data collection, management, and analysis.
  • Monitor compliance with data security and retention policies to maintain the integrity of Center data and research.
  • Coordinate with clients and stakeholders as needed to obtain and manage administrative datasets.
  • Contribute to developing and improving processes and procedures.
  • Mentor and train staff in survey data cleaning, analytic workflows, and team processes.
  • Monitor and supervise students contributing to projects.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience providing supervision and guidance to other staff.
  • Skills in Stata.
  • Graduate-level coursework or applied experience in research methods, survey methodology, program evaluation, causal inference, or applied statistics.
  • Experience with survey data tools such as REDCap and Qualtrics.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with early childhood and/or social policy topics.
