  • A Bachelor's Degree in Education is required.
  • An Alaska Teacher Certificate is required.
  • The employee must be able to perform the essential job functions, including sitting, standing, walking, handling objects and controls, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, climbing, and balancing.
  • The employee must regularly lift or move up to 40 pounds.
  • The employee must have the required close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must be willing and able to travel within and outside the North Slope Borough School District on small and large commuter planes.
  • The employee must comply with the Professional Teaching Practice Commission's code of ethics and professional teaching standards and all district policies and regulations.
Responsibilities
  • Implement research-based instructional strategies that direct student learning and achievement by developing and sustaining a classroom culture conducive to learning.
  • Individualize instruction based on students' learning styles, learning rates, maturation, achievement levels, and frequent assessment.
  • Serve students with all disabilities and gifted and talented students across all grades, including preschool, using varied support services and settings.
  • Maintain competency in subject matter areas of certification and assignment.
  • Use appropriate assessment methods to identify student proficiency levels and plan short- and long-range programs based on identified needs and student achievement data.
  • Use formative and summative data to determine the effectiveness of instructional strategies.
  • Develop instruction that is bicultural or multicultural and responds to diverse community interests and needs.
  • Use Rubicon Atlas to complete culture-based unit development requirements.
  • Supervise and train instructional paraprofessionals in providing services to students as needed.
  • Write and submit weekly lesson plans to the principal and maintain digital copies throughout the year.
  • Participate in educational committees and organizations.
  • Support school district goals and the North Slope Borough School District pedagogy.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree in Education is preferred.
  • Three years of experience in education is preferred.
  • Experience with Inupiaq language, history, and culture is preferred.
