Requirements
- A high school diploma plus two years of college or technical training and eight years of demonstrated relevant and progressive experience are required.
- Completion of a Radiation Safety Officer training course, or prior approval by an Agreement State or the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to serve as the Radiation Safety Officer for a material license, is required.
- The candidate must be at least a Level II certified inspector in accordance with ASNT SNT-TC-1A guidelines for RT RAM/X-ray and have five years of experience as a certified radiographer with film interpretation.
- The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense Secret security clearance and access to the AEDC local area network.
- U.S. citizenship is required for employment at AEDC.
- The employee must wear personal protective equipment in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
Responsibilities
- Conduct daily operations and oversee radiographic personnel, including assigning projects.
- Identify and advocate for manpower and resources needed to complete established X-ray laboratory objectives.
- Recommend and implement new policies, modifications to existing policies, procedures, and work instructions.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and the safety of laboratory personnel and on-site visitors.
- Create and maintain auditable records applicable to the Radiation Safety Program.
- Ensure compliant receipt, transfer, and shipping of radioactive material.
- Create or update operating and emergency procedures required under federal and state regulations for industrial radiography using radioactive material.
- Ensure that only qualified and approved personnel access and use radioactive material for radiographic inspections within the X-ray Laboratory.
- Perform periodic unannounced personnel audits while radioactive material is being used and ensure radiographic equipment is inspected and calibrated as required.
- Create or update plans and procedures associated with Nuclear Regulatory Commission Part 37 regulations and maintain records required by state regulations and NRC Part 37.
- Perform record and file audits to identify non-compliance or areas needing improvement.
- Ensure personnel exposure-monitoring dosimetry is available and exposure records are maintained.
- Act as liaison with the Tennessee Department of Radiological Health and the Nuclear Regulatory Commission concerning procurement, possession, storage, and use of radioactive material, and provide input and assistance with state audits.
- Ensure all approved access personnel meet personnel-integrity requirements under NRC Part 37 regulations.
- Develop and provide annual Radiation Safety Training and other training required by regulations, ensuring completion by appropriate personnel.
- Perform other duties as required.
Desired Qualifications
- An associate degree in engineering technology with a curriculum in non-destructive testing and evaluation.
- Current ASNT Industrial Radiation Safety Personnel certification through the American Society of Nondestructive Testing.
- Current Radiation Safety Officer status for a material license.
- Qualification and certifiability to Level II or Level III in Magnetic Particle Testing, Liquid Penetrant Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, Radiographic Testing with film interpretation, and Visual Testing.
- Experience reading Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams of mechanical systems.
- Knowledge and experience with ASME B&PV Codes V and VIII Divisions 1 and 2, ASME B31.1, ASME B31.3, and NBIC NB-23.
- Current Certified Welding Inspector certification through the American Welding Society.
- Current API 510, API 570, or API 653 certification through the American Petroleum Institute.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
