ACOTAR franchise: brands clamor to collaborate.

ACOTAR franchise: brands clamor to collaborate. Published on 19 October 2026 at 2:45 pm - Written by Laura Spencer - Reading duration: 4 minutes Show summary As Sarah J. Maas prepares to release the sixth book in her A Court of Thorns and Roses series, brands are racing to translate Prythian into products. From perfumes to lingerie, the franchise is fueling tie-ins that aim to capture BookTok buzz and the loyalty of romantasy readers. Retail rollouts and product drops tied to ACOTAR. Major retailers and niche labels have launched ACOTAR-inspired lines in October. These releases span multiple categories and price points. * Target unveiled Court-themed items with BrüMate tumblers and Alex and Ani jewelry. * Fine'ry rebranded four fragrances with new names and packaging that nod to the books. * Knix introduced leakproof intimates, lingerie and sleepwear with Court-inspired prints. * Funko Pop added collectible figures, including an exclusive Feyre bow-and-arrow release at Barnes & Noble. * Loungefly produced a crossbody bag, a mini backpack and a canvas tote featuring series artwork. How brands shape products from fantasy details. Teams mined the novels for sensory cues and story beats. Instead of slapping a name on items, many designers sought fidelity to the source material. Design choices informed by the text. * Knix created pieces tied to key moments in the saga, using layered silhouettes to evoke scenes. * Fine'ry matched scent profiles to locations and imagery in the books, renaming perfumes to reflect setting and character. * Artists were commissioned to add Easter-egg motifs like foxes and eyes to prints and packaging. Brands also tested designs with superfans to avoid missteps. Fan input helped ensure color palettes and motifs felt authentic. Marketing strategies: events, influencers and licensing deals. Promotion mixes physical activations with digital outreach. Retailers timed launches to book events and fan momentum. * Target held midnight release events and offered gifts with purchase. * Knix built a waitlist, staged launch events in New York and Toronto, and created a BookTok influencer program. * Fine'ry partnered with IMG Licensing and planned wide distribution across Amazon and Books-A-Million. Brands are pairing traditional retail placements with community-driven channels. BookTok remains a central amplifier for fan discovery and review. Why literary IP attracts brand collaborations. Marketing executives say book-based franchises offer a different kind of audience than films or sports. Literary worlds tend to create long-term emotional investment. Readers often imagine characters and settings for years. That gives brands creative leeway when translating scenes into products. According to industry strategists, established fiction arrives with built-in attention. That reduces the work brands must do to create cultural relevance. Case study: Knix - employee fandom to full collection. Knix's campaign began inside the company. Scores of employees flagged ACOTAR as a favorite, and customer surveys confirmed interest. * The team spent 18 months developing the collection. * Designers cross-checked garments against the books to match mood and color. * Local artists produced exclusive prints with hidden references for fans to spot. Knix avoided generic branding. The goal was to create items that read as intentional tributes, not simple licensed merchandise. Case study: Fine'ry - scent as a vehicle for escapism. Fine'ry repurposed four existing fragrances and gave them ACOTAR identities. * Jasmine-forward scents became links to Velaris. * Other perfumes were renamed for characters and palaces in the story. * Retail price points were set to encourage impulse buys at mass retailers. The brand saw a natural connection between fragrance and fantasy. Both offer a form of escapism that helps consumers imagine themselves in another world. Distribution and points of sale for franchise products. Products are appearing across mainstream and specialty channels. Retail partners include national chains and independent sellers. * Items are available at Target, Barnes & Noble, Free People and Indigo in Canada. * Online marketplaces such as Amazon and Books-A-Million will carry select lines. * Direct-to-consumer sites are handling exclusive drops and waitlist sales. Brands use this mix to reach both casual buyers and core fans. Fandom sensitivity: the risk and reward of faithful tie-ins. Experts warn that book communities are meticulous about lore. Fans will champion accurate, thoughtful collaborations. However, superficial or hurried efforts can face swift backlash online. Authenticity is the currency that buys fan goodwill. To succeed, brands must match the fandom to their customer base and avoid chasing scale at the expense of credibility. What brands should consider before partnering with book franchises. * Study the audience: confirm overlap between your customers and the fandom. * Respect the narrative: align product choices with story elements. * Test with superfans: run designs past active community members. * Plan intentional marketing: blend events, influencers and retail timing. When executed carefully, franchise collaborations can create dedicated buyers and organic social buzz. Give your feedback. Laura Spencer is your go-to guide for smart shopping. Funko, Loungefly & Mondo bring an epic lineup of NYCC 2026 exclusives.

Funko, Loungefly & Mondo bring an epic lineup of NYCC 2026 exclusives. New York Comic Con is almost here, and collectors are about to have a LOT to be excited about! Funko, Loungefly, and Mondo are heading back to NYCC 2026 with an impressive lineup of convention exclusives featuring some of the biggest names in pop culture. Whether your collection leans toward superheroes, Marvel icons, adorable Sanrio characters, or terrifying xenomorphs, there's a good chance you'll want to make some room on those shelves. Among the featured franchises this year are DC, Marvel, Sanrio, and Alien, with Funko, Loungefly, and Mondo bringing plenty of exclusive collectibles to the convention floor. DC fans, get ready for a daily surprise. DC collectors are going to have an especially exciting NYCC. Throughout New York Comic Con, Funko will release a different DC Comics: Lantern NYCC exclusive variant each day, with the variants available in limited quantities. That means there's a new collectible to hunt down every day of the convention! Alongside the daily variants, collectors can also grab the POP! Legendary LE: DC Comics - Green Lantern, which will be available every day at the Funko booth as well as online at Funko.com. And here's the important part for collectors who love true convention exclusives: select variants will only be available at the Funko booth during NYCC and will not be sold online. So, yes, the hunt is officially on! Marvel and Sanrio join the fun. Marvel fans will also find NYCC exclusives waiting at the Funko booth, while Loungefly is bringing some adorable - and highly collectible - Sanrio exclusives to the show. Because apparently a trip to Comic Con isn't complete until your collection gets at least a little bit cuter. Something's Waiting in the Dark... For fans of sci-fi horror, Loungefly and Mondo are teaming up for Alien-themed NYCC exclusives. The collaboration is a particularly exciting one for collectors who love the iconic Alien franchise, combining Loungefly's collectible style with Mondo's distinctive approach to pop-culture merchandise. And if you know anything about Alien, you already know that whatever you bring home may be considerably less terrifying than what was lurking aboard the Nostromo. Want these exclusives? Pay attention to the dates! Of course, the biggest question for collectors is: How do I actually get these NYCC exclusives? Funko is once again using its credit card pre-authorization process for convention exclusives. Pre-authorization drawing entries begin Monday, October 5, 2026, giving collectors the opportunity to enter for the chance to purchase the items they've selected. The entry window closes on Wednesday, October 7, after which randomly selected winners will be notified. If selected, their credit cards will automatically be charged for the NYCC exclusive items they pre-authorized for purchase. And if you don't get selected in the drawing, don't give up just yet! Any remaining inventory from the NYCC exclusive lineup will be added to Funko.com and Loungefly.com on the morning of Thursday, October 8, 2026, following the pre-authorization purchase drawings. Naturally, with highly anticipated convention exclusives involved, items could disappear quickly - so collectors will want to be ready to shop! With DC, Marvel, Sanrio, and Alien all represented across Funko, Loungefly, and Mondo, NYCC 2026 is shaping up to be another seriously exciting convention for collectors. Now the only question is: How much room do you have left on your shelves? Be sure to check Funko's official blog for the full details on the pre-authorization process and NYCC exclusive purchasing information.

Disney's most junior employee rewrote CEO's op-ed — now he's Funko CEO with advice for Gen Z

Josh Simon, CEO of pop-culture collectibles brand Funko, credits his early career boldness for helping shape his success. As Disney's most junior employee in the early 2000s, Simon rewrote an op-ed by then-CEO Michael Eisner, establishing a lasting relationship with the executive. Simon later worked at Nike and Netflix before joining Funko in September 2024. The company had faced declining sales, excess inventory, and debt concerns. Under his leadership, Funko's recent earnings showed net sales up 7% year over year, with net income of $15.4 million compared to a $40.5 million loss previously. The company's stock has risen over 35% in the past year. Simon advises young workers to excel at their current roles first. "I feel like you're most valuable early on if you just focus on what your job is, and you do incredibly well," he said.

Former Netflix exec takes helm at struggling Funko after $67M loss

Funko Inc is attempting a turnaround after reporting a $67.4 million loss on sales of $908.2 million in 2024, down 13% year-over-year. The Everett, Washington-based company disclosed debts of $225 million and warned investors of "substantial doubt" about its ability to meet debt payments. Josh Simon, previously Netflix's global consumer products head, became chief executive in September 2025. He's the third CEO in two years. Simon cited tariffs in China, where most toys are manufactured, cancelled retail orders and loan covenant breaches as challenges. The maker of 4-inch vinyl Pop figurines has struggled after overestimating demand and producing too many dolls. Funko, which went public in 2017, generates most revenue from licensed characters sold through retailers and at events.
