  • Graduation from an approved Medical Assistant educational program recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is required.
  • At least two years of relevant experience is required.
  • An approved Medical Assistant certification is required, such as Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, National Certified Medical Assistant, or Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification for healthcare providers is required.
  • Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continuing Education certification is required.
  • Knowledge of basic medical terminology is required.
  • Knowledge of medical and surgical asepsis and sterile technique is required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the clinical team is required.
  • The ability to adapt to changing environments is required.
  • Strong time-management skills are required to prioritize and act proactively.
  • The ability to uphold professional ethics and maintain patient confidentiality is required.
Responsibilities
  • Assist medical providers with patient healthcare management and clinical procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed physician.
  • Provide hands-on patient care in accordance with regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Provide compassionate care, establish trusting relationships with patients and families, identify and manage discomforts, and provide emotional support.
  • Prioritize and integrate multiple requests and work expectations while performing tasks safely, timely, and professionally.
  • Communicate with patients, families, and appropriate team members in a clear and timely manner, including meeting the communication needs of patients with Limited English Proficiency.
  • Participate in unit or clinic programs, meetings, and team-building activities.
  • Use available technology resources for communication, documentation, and locating pertinent clinical information.
  • Maintain current clinical competencies and professional knowledge through ongoing learning and development.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulatory guidelines, including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
  • Prepare treatment and examination rooms with appropriate supplies, instruments, and materials for provider physical examinations.
  • Prepare patients for physician care by providing basic instructions and information about examination procedures.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests, vital signs, electrocardiograms, and phlebotomy, and document findings in the patient medical record.
  • Observe and report changes in patients’ signs or symptoms.
  • Safely administer medications as directed by the physician.
  • Assist with patient-care activities such as walking, and escort or transport patients to hospital locations.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments while observing sterile technique.
  • Schedule patients for tests and complete required laboratory-work forms.
  • Provide patients with provider care instructions and information.
  • Maintain accurate and complete patient records and documentation.
  • Order, stock, and inventory supplies and assist with clerical duties.
  • Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
