Requirements
  • A high school education or GED is required.
  • Medical or dental assistant experience is preferred.
  • Must have reliable personal transportation, a good driving record, and car insurance.
  • Must have completed and passed a two-step tuberculosis skin test.
  • Hepatitis B vaccination is preferred.
  • Must have a state radiation license or certificate.
  • Must have good computer skills and medical terminology experience.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to follow directions and listen to the needs of patients and doctors.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation and drug screen.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands of the role, including standing, walking, pushing, stooping, lifting 50 pounds or more for dental assignments, pushing patients in a wheelchair, and working under stressful or irregular conditions.
  • Must be able to work with some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the dentist with patient care in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Review, verify, and maintain current and accurate clinical records, charts, and medical histories through electronic medical records.
  • Ensure the integrity of all documentation.
  • Update the patient odontogram for every patient encounter.
  • Pass instruments and supplies to the dentist efficiently for the care being rendered.
  • Maintain the treatment area through evacuation, washing, isolation, drying, and proper illumination.
  • Provide daily feedback and work with the branch office to optimize the dental schedule and reporting.
  • Manage patient flow during facility visits and push wheelchairs as needed.
  • Balance and generate daily production reports and provide them to the dentist upon departure.
  • Post dental charges accurately to the appropriate provider in a timely manner.
  • Care for and clean medical equipment.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and report them to the appropriate resources.
  • Maintain and schedule planned maintenance for dental equipment.
  • Clean up the service area used in the facility.
  • Inspect and maintain the vehicle’s exterior and interior appearance, perform routine oil changes and refueling, and replace brake lights as needed.
  • Maintain dental supplies inventory by auditing stock levels, anticipating supply needs, and placing and expediting supply orders.
  • Prepare supplies while minimizing waste and duplication.
  • Ensure dental equipment is functioning properly by completing preventive maintenance requirements and following manufacturer instructions.
  • Assist the dentist’s diagnosis by exposing and processing digital dental radiographs.
  • Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques.
  • Provide a positive patient experience.
  • Follow Occupational Safety and Health Administration and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act guidelines.
  • Communicate with patients, family members, providers, faculty, and staff.
  • Respond to patient inquiries promptly and document conversations in the electronic medical record.
  • Travel up to 100% of the time and service locations within a 2.5-hour radius.
  • Support and comply with the compliance program, including completing training and reporting suspected violations of law and company policy.
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and protected health information guidelines.
  • Respond positively to change and perform other assigned duties.
