Requirements
  • Medical Radiologic Technologist license from the Mississippi State Department of Health.
  • Radiography (R) registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association, required within 90 days after hire.
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, required within 24 months after hire.
  • Knowledge of magnetic resonance imaging procedures and technology.
  • Knowledge of specifications, standards, and tolerances for operating MRI equipment and facilities.
  • Skill in operating magnetic resonance film processors and ancillary equipment.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to monitor and maintain quality control standards.
  • Ability to alleviate patient anxiety.
  • Ability to meet all minimum qualifications before starting work, or to be actively pursuing the required certifications, licenses, or registrations and complete them within three months.
  • Ability to work safely around biohazardous conditions, radiation exposure, bloodborne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Ability to perform the stated physical demands, including occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 pounds, frequent standing, and frequent walking.
Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain a magnetic resonance imaging scanner to obtain diagnostic images while ensuring patient safety and comfort.
  • Perform magnetic resonance imaging procedures.
  • Explain procedures to patients, obtain and record relevant medical history, select appropriate equipment settings, and position patients to facilitate optimal imaging results.
  • Develop and view images to determine quality, forward images for review and interpretation, and maintain applicable patient documentation.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and a clean work area, and report equipment malfunctions to a supervisor.
  • Assume responsibility for patient safety and provide physical and psychological comfort to patients.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety, environmental, exposure control, and infection control practices.
