Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing is required.
  • An Ohio Registered Nurse license is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross is required upon hire or within one year of employment.
  • Completion of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program through the American Academy of Pediatrics is required within six months of hire into New Life Center.
  • Two years of recent clinical nursing experience in a mother/baby or obstetrics setting is required.
  • Strong clinical knowledge and skills, oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, analytical skills, and organizational skills are required.
  • The caregiver must work under stressful conditions and irregular hours and may be exposed to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • The caregiver must meet the role's physical requirements, including handling and lifting patients, extended standing and walking, and medium physical work.
  • The caregiver must follow standard precautions and use required personal protective equipment.
  • The caregiver must complete mandatory education and training to maintain organizational and department-specific competencies and requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Support the nurse manager by providing clinical supervision and unit coordination.
  • Interview, hire, and train staff; provide input into performance evaluations and provide feedback.
  • Make personnel action recommendations, including promotions, transfers, disciplinary actions, and discharge.
  • Provide direction and support to unit staff, supervise admissions, conduct assessments of patient needs, and initiate nursing care plans.
  • Evaluate and document patient progress.
  • Facilitate the planning, implementation, development, and evaluation of nursing programs, initiatives, and objectives for the unit.
  • Assist with developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services in the unit.
  • Serve as a liaison between the manager, staff, and other areas within the organization.
  • Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in the unit.
  • Prepare work-assignment schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Participate in and support quality-improvement projects, outcome studies, and research initiatives.
  • Participate in departments and committees as assigned.
  • Assist with providing continuing education and in-service educational programs for caregivers.
