Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant certificate or diploma program.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Fire Life Safety Training for Los Angeles City; if not held upon hire, it must be obtained within 30 days and renewed before expiration.
Responsibilities
  • Determine patient care needs and direct patients accordingly.
  • Prepare patient charts before appointments, including x-rays and pertinent laboratory work, arrange special equipment, set up examination rooms, assist physicians with examinations, and monitor patient flow.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and obtain and record vital signs.
  • Keep health care delivery areas stocked, organized, cleaned, and disinfected.
  • Maintain files and records, oversee equipment and office supply inventory, photocopy, collate, fax, mail, and prioritize incoming mail for handling or routing.
  • Ensure physician orders for medications and treatments are implemented by appropriate staff.
  • Provide coverage and relief for co-workers and communicate patient status during coverage.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and procedures.
  • Record patient information in charts and electronic health records according to Joint Commission standards.
  • Obtain blood specimens through venipuncture or capillary methods in response to clinician testing requests, with consideration for patient age.
  • Receive and screen specimens for acceptability according to established guidelines.
  • Process, distribute, or package received specimens.
  • Schedule diagnostic tests ordered by physicians as needed.
  • Perform office and clerical duties.
  • Maintain patient privacy, safety, and confidentiality.
  • Maintain a safe environment in accordance with standards, policies, and safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control policies.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least one year of experience in an acute care setting, with combined education and experience accepted as a substitute for minimum experience.
  • Knowledge of specialty medical terminology.
  • Familiarity with word processing, IDX, GECB, COR Schuynet, Cerner, ProSolv, EPF, AS400, and scheduling software.
  • Spanish language skills.
  • Certified Medical Assistant certification.
