About the job

Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; technical or vocational training is preferred.
  • EPA Section 608 certification, Universal or applicable type, is required.
  • Ability to read P&IDs, mechanical schedules, original equipment manufacturer documentation, and method of procedure and standard operating procedure documents is required.
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to work in live critical environments is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in raised-floor environments, rooftops, and equipment rooms is required.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, and on-call rotations is required.
Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on data center mechanical systems, including CRAH/CRAC units, chilled water systems, pumps, valves, strainers, heat exchangers, cooling towers, adiabatic systems, fluid loops, DX, split, and supplemental cooling systems.
  • Execute work through the field management system using approved methods of procedure, standard operating procedures, and change-management processes.
  • Maintain system redundancy awareness and understand upstream and downstream impacts.
  • Respond to alarms, degraded performance, and emergency service calls according to service-level agreements.
  • Accurately document all work, readings, inspections, and system conditions.
  • Follow safety protocols, including lockout/tagout, personal protective equipment, site rules, and confined-space procedures.
  • Participate in on-call rotations and scheduled maintenance windows.
  • Complete required company and data-center-specific training through the Upchurch University learning management system program.
  • At Level I, perform preventive maintenance and basic corrective maintenance under supervision; support inspections, filter changes, belt replacements, lubrication, and visual checks; learn data center environments, redundancy concepts, and uptime risk; record readings and follow procedures; and escalate abnormal conditions promptly.
  • At Level II, independently perform preventive and corrective maintenance on assigned systems; troubleshoot alarms, performance degradation, and control issues; execute approved methods of procedure with limited oversight; coordinate with controls, electrical, and operations teams; identify early failure indicators and recommend corrective actions; begin system-level ownership of specific assets; and support outage planning and maintenance-window execution.
  • At Level III, serve as the technical authority for assigned mechanical systems; lead complex method-of-procedure execution, outages, and recovery procedures; perform advanced diagnostics and root-cause analysis; review and improve standard operating procedures, preventive-maintenance scopes, and maintenance strategies; mentor Level I and II technicians; interface directly with client operations and service management; support condition-based and predictive maintenance programs; and identify risk, reliability gaps, and lifecycle improvement opportunities.
Desired Qualifications
  • CRAH/CRAC experience is preferred.
  • Exposure to chilled water plants is preferred.
  • Familiarity with building automation or building management systems is preferred.
  • Original equipment manufacturer certifications are preferred.
  • OSHA 10- or 30-hour training is preferred.
  • Experience in data centers, hospitals, or industrial facilities is preferred.
  • Prior data center, industrial, or critical-facility exposure is preferred for Level II.
  • Strong mission-critical or data center background is typical for Level III.
