The FP&A Director will report to the Chief Financial Officer and have exposure to the CEO and work collaboratively with other areas of the organization including accounting, sales operations, and sales. The individual filling this position is expected to serve as the sole FP&A expert at Affinitiv and be the key individual preparing financial analysis for Affinitiv’s executive leadership team, private equity investors, and debt lenders.
Position Responsibilities:
- Perform month-end financial reporting – variance analysis month over month, year over year, and against budget
- Perform month-end sales reporting – segmented by various internal categories such as major client, product, platform, item, individual customer, internal cohorts, etc. and track against internal initiatives
- Calculate and monitor gross and net retention across various internal segments noted in the sales reporting section above
- Maintain and develop a 3-statement financial budget model and a multiyear forecast allowing for flexible changes mid-year
- Own a budget process including sales by customer and product, COGS and margin trends, payroll by department, major vendor trends, and known investment costs
- Own working with various department leaders throughout the company to educate them on their budgets and help them elevate their financial aptitude
- Regularly interpret trending monthly information such as financial P&Ls, contract bookings, and other business trends and monitor their implications to the business’ run-rate revenue and EBITDA and escalate findings to management
- Translate financial findings into non-financial outputs such as recommendations to other ELT members and vice-versa (i.e. take non-financial input from department leaders and evaluate / quantify their financial implications)
- Investigate accounting and sales irregularities and understand their impact on budgeted expectations and if there is a multi-period impact
- Track one-time EBITDA costs for compliance with lender reporting requirements
- Assist with the compilation of quarterly board decks and monthly operating reviews, and period lender updates
- Continuously work with both the accounting and sales operations departments to top-grade reporting and update reporting as business needs change over time
- Tracking and analyzing KPIs, both financial and non-financial to ensure internal accountability and drive ROI across departments including chrun, predicted chrun/red flags, stores visits, etc.
- Support management business initiatives such as RFPs, hiring plans and pricing strategies
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in finance and/or accounting
- Minimum of 5yrs of finance experience with either a large accounting firm, investment bank, or FP&A function at a mid-market size company
- Advanced excel is a must – pivot tables, IF statements, vlookups, etc.
- Data Modelling – gathering data sources from various departments and systems, consolidating data, tending outputs over multiple periods, and summarizing key findings. Note that this data modelling will include data beyond traditional financial data such sales orders, payroll, vendor invoices, etc.
- Data structuring – organizing data into an efficient and flexible input/output model is critical to this position as all analysis and models are subject to change with business needs and this position will need to have foresight into initial structuring to be able to re-use recent work
- Financial statement aptitude – capable of independently understanding operational drivers impacting financial statements, formulating expectations, and investigating variances
- Presentation skills – comfortable discuss findings with mid-level and executive management.
- Must have a strong understanding of GAAP
- Ability to keep up in a faced paced private equity ownership environment
Experience and/or skills considered a plus, but not required
- Transaction services and/or financial due diligence experience at a major accounting or consulting firm
- Understanding of private equity and/or private equity backed portfolio companies
- Experience with companies with multiple revenue models – recurring saas, budget-based delivery quantities, and one-time transactional
- Experience in investment banking or process driven events such as restructurings, divestitures, exit sales, etc.
- Knowledge of NetSuite and salesforce.com
