Position Summary:
The Research Associate/Senior Research Associate will be a member of the mRNA Technologies Group at FL85, supporting laboratory research to develop the next generation of information molecule therapeutics. The successful candidate will have an understanding of principles necessary for establishing high-yield, high-quality and scalable mRNA production processes. A background in mRNA process optimization and nucleic acid characterization techniques is required along with a strong understanding of molecular biology and general lab operations. The Research Associate/Senior Research Associate will assist the mRNA Technologies Group with assays and data analysis, using these experimental results to help coordinate with other working groups at FL85.
Key Responsibilities:
- Laboratory-based, hands-on contribution to mRNA generation to facilitate in vitro and in vivo preclinical studies.
- Contribute to development and optimization of new technologies and methods related to improved mRNA synthesis and purification.
- Help implement larger scale mRNA production processes including single-use bioreactors
- Characterization and quantitation of mRNA and other nucleic acids (impurity assessment, cell-based potency, immunogenicity assays, NGS and/or Sanger sequencing analysis, etc.).
- Analysis and documentation of results in an electronic lab notebook or other technical reporting format.
- Sharing and interpreting experimental results with other working groups to coordinate effort toward project goals.
Basic Qualifications:
- B.S. or M.S. in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field with at least two years of relevant experience
- Experience with mRNA synthesis, purification, and characterization including familiarity with chromatography, tangential flow filtration, fragment analyzer, dot blot assay, etc.
- Strong molecular biology experimental skills, including experience executing protocols, troubleshooting, and carrying out literature searches for technology evaluation and selection
- Proven ability to work independently and cross-functionally with highly skilled teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and technical environment
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Motivated, curious, and comfortable working with highly technical projects and personnel
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough manner
- Comfortable with challenging technical problems and deadlines
