Dirt work ongoing at site of new Stormont Vail Emporia clinic. Emporia, KS, USA / KVOE Apr 12, 2026 | 11:55 AM Stormont Vail Health hasn't mentioned an official groundbreaking date yet for its new Emporia clinic, but it has been targeting this spring - and there has been a lot of earthwork already done on site as the process moves towards a tentative groundbreaking activity next month. The clinic, getting built near the southeast corner of West 18th and Road G or Americus Road, already has several levels of dirt relatively smoothed out for the upcoming construction, which follows nearly two years of zoning processes as Stormont Vail exits its Cotton O'Neil Clinic space at Newman Regional Health. The nearly $45 million facility should open to the public in 2028. It will offer several levels of primary care, including family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics and behavioral health. It will also offer several types of specialty care, including immunology, allergy, cardiology, endocrinology, occupational health and orthopedics. Imaging and lab services will also be included.

"These are skills that are not necessarily taught in medical school, but that are critical to the success of any physician in today's healthcare environment," said Peter Angood, MD, FRCS (C), FACS, MCCM, FAAPL(Hon), President and CEO of AAPL. "We salute Stormont Vail Health for its commitment to preparing today's physicians for the healthcare leadership challenges they will surely face." Today more than 4,300 physicians world-wide hold the CPE credential. "As the healthcare industry continues to evolve and become more complex, strong physician leadership is paramount," said Kevin Dishman, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical and Quality Officer. "This leadership academy supports our commitment to quality, safety, and high reliability by developing physician leaders who understand the science of medicine, and are equipped with the tools to lead teams, manage complexity, and drive improvements to elevate care across Stormont Vail Health." The first cohort began the program this month. Year one courses include fundamentals of communication, influence, negotiation, quality, finance, credential action plan, health law, principles of change managing physician performance and resolving conflict.
