Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in human services, psychology, counseling, education, social science, communications, or a closely related field; or an associate's degree in one of those fields and two years of related experience.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • A valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Successful completion of a background check and drug test.
  • Ability to walk, climb stairs, visually observe the Center environment, run and respond rapidly to physical altercations or emergencies, safely operate a passenger vehicle, and supervise students simultaneously.
  • Ability to frequently sit, stand, walk, talk, or hear; occasionally use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms; work near other people; occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds; and use close vision and adjust focus.
Responsibilities
  • Coach students on job searching, college or military applications, resume writing, and interviewing skills.
  • Contact students before separation, immediately after separation, and at least every thirty days after separation to provide placement and transition assistance.
  • Verify employment, job upgrades, and school or military placement in compliance with government regulations.
  • Develop and maintain employer partnerships to place Job Corps graduates in jobs with career potential and former enrollees in entry-level jobs.
  • Maintain the transition check log, account for check distribution, and verify addresses before mailing checks.
  • Submit a monthly report to management detailing placement activities and contacts, including placed, not placed, and cannot locate cases.
  • Participate in outreach trips to network with employers and school officials.
  • Conduct presentations for individuals, youth groups, communities, agencies, schools, and potential employers to foster interest in Job Corps, and attend career and college fairs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records.
  • Assist Outreach/Admissions staff in communicating basic Job Corps eligibility requirements to youth, youth influencers, and potential future employers.
  • Create and maintain partnerships with One Stop or Job Service agencies in rural and urban communities to coordinate placement and transition services.
  • Conduct six-month and twelve-month follow-up calls with graduates, confirm continued employment, and provide additional placement and transition services as needed.
  • Enter active electronic case notes at least monthly for students eligible for career transition services.
  • Obtain placement verification documents for clients placed in jobs, schools, or military services in compliance with Policy and Requirements Handbook requirements.
  • Provide job leads to students in transition, graduates, and former enrollees.
  • Maintain accountability for students and property and adhere to safety practices.
  • Maintain a harassment-, intimidation-, and disrespect-free climate at the Center and during Outreach/Admissions and Career Transition Services functions.
  • Promote student attainment of career success standards by modeling appropriate skills, mentoring students, monitoring skill acquisition, and intervening when inappropriate behavior is observed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
