  • An unencumbered Registered Nurse license in Texas or an unencumbered Registered Nurse Compact license is required.
  • A minimum of four years of nursing practice experience is required.
  • A Master of Science in Nursing, or a Master of Science in a closely related field with 12 completed credit hours in a master's or doctoral nursing program excluding the thesis or professional paper, is required.
  • Assistant Professor candidates must have a terminal Ph.D., Doctor of Nursing Practice, or Doctor of Education degree; ABD candidates with confirmed doctoral dissertation defense dates may be considered at Instructor rank until the doctorate is conferred.
  • The ability to regularly teach, attend meetings, conduct office hours, and perform other position responsibilities onsite is required.
  • The ability to travel and work beyond normal office hours is required.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality is required.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States is required at the time of hire.
  • Applicants are subject to a criminal history investigation and verification of credentials and other required information.
Responsibilities
  • Lecturers teach 15 semester credit hours of undergraduate courses in each long semester in classroom, clinical, simulation, and/or online settings.
  • Assistant Professors teach 12 semester credit hours of undergraduate and graduate courses in each long semester in classroom, clinical, simulation, and/or online settings.
  • Teach courses in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Associate Degree in Nursing to Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and/or Master of Science in Nursing programs in online, hybrid, and face-to-face formats, including clinical and simulation teaching and supervision.
  • Provide student advisement as assigned.
  • Participate actively in program development, renewal, and revision.
  • Perform appropriate service within the university, region, and/or regional or national healthcare entities.
  • Work with the Nursing Chair to develop collaborative relationships with local and regional healthcare entities.
  • Seek and participate in independent and/or collaborative extramurally funded projects and research.
  • Supervise students in clinical and experiential learning experiences.
  • Supervise students' initial nursing procedures in the clinical area and ascertain competency before allowing independent performance of actual nursing procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate curriculum.
  • Participate in developing, implementing, and enforcing standards and policies for student admission, progression, probation, and dismissal, and participate in academic guidance and counseling.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience using an online learning management system such as Canvas or Blackboard.
  • Experience teaching in classroom and clinical settings.
  • Experience meeting accreditation standards.
  • Current clinical practical experience or equivalent teaching experience.
  • Medical-surgical and/or critical care experience.
  • A record of professional activities related to nursing or nursing education.
  • Evidence of a research agenda and scholarship.
