Requirements
  • Current certification from an approved medical-assisting certifying organization, registration from the American Medical Technologists, or a New Jersey license in another classification permitted to give intramuscular and subcutaneous injections; a third-year nursing student may also qualify.
  • A satisfactory level of comprehension and experience in administering intramuscular and subcutaneous techniques.
  • Completion and successful passage of the annual medication-administration review, including classroom curriculum, hands-on participation, and a post-test score of 80 or higher.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with faculty and staff to maintain timely and organized patient and visitor flow throughout their ambulatory care experience.
  • Prepare patients for visits by interviewing and screening them regarding medical, surgical, gynecological, and obstetric history, medication history, chief complaint, vital signs, pain, height, and weight.
  • Document all patient encounters in the electronic medical record.
  • Identify abnormal vital signs and immediately notify the provider during the patient visit.
  • Obtain clinical data and perform procedures as requested or directed by the provider.
  • Administer vaccinations and subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections according to hospital policy.
  • Provide allergy and other screening as designated by hospital policy and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with coworkers and demonstrate teamwork.
  • Verify patient insurance benefits and precertification for services.
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment and prepare clinical spaces and supplies.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least one year of related experience in a medical office setting.
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish, Portuguese, or French.
  • Experience in an ambulatory care or outpatient care setting.
  • Knowledge of managed care and New Jersey health insurance.
