Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline is required.
  • At least five years of experience in a clinical laboratory is required.
  • Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification or an equivalent relevant categorical certification is required.
  • Completion of Path and Lab ICCE Career Ladder requirements for Medical Technologist IV/Specialist is required within six months of starting the position.
  • The employee must comply with applicable laboratory accreditation standards.
  • Employment authorization is verified through the federal E-Verify program.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Supervisor with oversight of laboratory work processes and work groups.
  • Relay communications between management and staff.
  • Assist with resolving technical and personnel issues arising in daily laboratory operations.
  • Lead team-building efforts and foster an open and creative laboratory environment.
  • Attend meetings and recommend workflow improvements between the laboratory and clinics to better serve patient care.
  • Assist with validation, optimization, and implementation of highly complex laboratory technologies.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert on laboratory procedures.
  • Troubleshoot assays and instrumentation as the laboratory contact person.
  • Share responsibility for training and competency assessments of laboratory staff.
  • Collaborate with the Supervisor on performance-management and quality issues.
  • Maintain the laboratory in a constant state of readiness and compliance with applicable accreditation standards.
Desired Qualifications
  • Specialty certification in a clinical laboratory section is preferred.
