  • 2–4 years of professional engineering experience
  • Deep fluency in React / Next.js and Node.js / TypeScript / Postgres
  • AI coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, Claude) are already baked into how you work
  • Something real you've built - a product, an open source project, a thing you couldn’t stop working on
  • You operate well with ambiguity
  • You actually care whether the person on the other end of the screen has a good experience
  • Location: hybrid role based out of New York City; candidates must reside in New York or be able to commute to New York City to work out of our office at least three times a week (Tuesdays - Thursdays)
Responsibilities

  • Platform reliability and performance at government scale - real users, real SLAs, no hiding
  • Code quality that the next engineer will respect: clean, tested, maintainable

  • Touched federal, state, or local government technology - or you understand the constraints of building for regulated, high-stakes environments
  • Cloud deployment experience (Amazon Web Services, Vercel, GitHub Actions, Elastic Container Service/Fargate)
  • Exposure to design systems and component libraries - you know the difference between a component that's functional and one that's right
  • You've worked in an early-stage environment where figuring it out was the job

Kaizen Labs acts as a university-backed, student-managed venture fund. It deploys approximately $50,000 each year in non-dilutive, pre-seed capital to early-stage startups, meaning startups receive funding without giving up equity. The fund also runs a venture capital training program, including an eight-week VC Bootcamp where students practice due diligence on teams, markets, products, business models, and metrics. The investments come from a hands-on, real-world process led by student analysts, with guidance from industry professionals. What sets Kaizen Labs apart is its combination of practical, equity-free funding and an educational program within a university ecosystem, helping both startups in the local ecosystem and students gain experience in venture capital. The goal is to support early-stage companies while training the next generation of venture professionals and analysts.

Ukraine's General Cherry partners with Croatia's Orqa to bring battle-tested counter-drone tech to NATO allies

Ukrainian defence-tech company General Cherry and Croatian drone manufacturer Orqa have signed a memorandum of cooperation to produce counter-drone systems for NATO and allied nations. The partnership will combine General Cherry's battlefield experience with Orqa's manufacturing expertise to develop interceptor drones and counter-UAV systems. Joint manufacturing facilities are being established in Croatia and Ukraine, with first products expected soon. General Cherry ranks first in interceptor drones among Ukrainian FPV drone developers, whilst Orqa produces components for customers in over 50 markets, including 24 NATO member states. The agreement marks the first time General Cherry's interceptor drone capability will be available outside Ukraine.
