Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution is required.
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license is required.
  • At least 12 years of progressively responsible experience in mechanical engineering design and project delivery is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering teams or technical disciplines is required.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles applicable to municipal infrastructure, industrial facilities, building systems, water and wastewater facilities, utility infrastructure, or related markets is required.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering projects from planning through construction is required.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills are required.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Mechanical Engineering Department, including mechanical design, piping engineering, pipe stress analysis, and equipment engineering.
  • Develop department standards, specifications, design procedures, and quality assurance practices.
  • Mentor engineers and designers through technical guidance, career development, and performance management.
  • Recruit, retain, and develop engineering talent.
  • Balance department workload, staffing, and utilization across multiple business sectors.
  • Promote collaboration across engineering disciplines while strengthening technical consistency throughout the department.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and continuously improve engineering tools, design practices, and department capabilities.
  • Maintain general knowledge of the Civil Engineering discipline.
  • Provide technical leadership for the planning, design, and review of mechanical systems supporting municipal infrastructure, water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, public buildings, transportation and transit facilities, utility infrastructure, industrial process facilities, pharmaceutical and life sciences facilities, and power generation and energy facilities.
  • Oversee building mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, and building utility systems.
  • Oversee process mechanical systems, including process piping, utility piping, mechanical process equipment, pumping systems, chemical feed systems, compressed air systems, fuel systems, equipment layouts, and equipment specifications.
  • Oversee mechanical equipment engineering for pumps, blowers, compressors, heat exchangers, pressure vessels, packaged process equipment, and rotating equipment.
  • Oversee piping engineering, including piping layouts, pipe stress analysis, pipe support design, flexible piping systems, mechanical equipment interfaces, and constructability reviews.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, client standards, engineering best practices, ASME, ASHRAE, AWWA, NFPA, API, IMC, IPC, EPA requirements, building codes, and state and local regulations.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Discipline Leads to deliver multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Support projects from planning and conceptual design through construction and commissioning.
  • Participate in field investigations, design reviews, construction meetings, startup activities, and client presentations.
  • Coordinate engineering interfaces among mechanical, piping, structural, electrical, instrumentation, civil, and architectural disciplines.
  • Promote practical, maintainable, and cost-effective engineering solutions.
  • Support proposal development and project pursuits.
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with municipal, industrial, utility, pharmaceutical, and commercial clients.
  • Identify opportunities to expand mechanical engineering services into new markets.
  • Support strategic planning and long-term department growth.
  • Represent the company through industry organizations, conferences, and technical presentations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience with water treatment facilities, wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, public works facilities, or utility infrastructure.
  • Experience with HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, or building mechanical systems.
  • Experience with process piping, mechanical process equipment, chemical processing, manufacturing facilities, or pipe stress analysis.
  • Experience with power generation, industrial utility systems, district energy systems, or fuel systems.
  • Experience with pharmaceutical facilities, laboratory facilities, or clean utility systems.
  • Experience working with municipalities, utility owners, industrial clients, transportation agencies, public sector clients, or regulated industries.
