About the Job

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • Experience with commercial computer-aided design (CAD) tools and proven ability to manage large CAD assemblies.
  • Two years of experience successfully performing in a similar role, including graduate school or industry experience, demonstrating the ability to meet performance goals and contribute to team outcomes.
  • Proven ability to apply knowledge and skills in real-world work environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thermal and structural simulations of engine systems and electrical generator systems, including enclosures.
  • Use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools, including STAR-CCM+ and uFx, to optimize engine thermal management systems, including fan designs, radiator core selection, and surrounding mechanical structures, to achieve generator set cooling targets.
  • Use analytic methods, including CFD, to model restrictions in piping systems, including fuel delivery and engine exhaust systems, and confirm performance targets are achieved.
  • Use structural simulation tools, including finite element analysis (FEA), to evaluate the safety and product performance of engines and generator sets, including accessories such as tanks and enclosures.
  • Prepare CAD geometry for structural and thermal simulation to minimize geometry complexity and size.
  • Gather and organize simulation requirements from internal product teams to ensure all inputs and success criteria are available before simulations begin.
  • Perform experimental measurements of thermal and fluid flow to validate simulation assumptions and modeling.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Siemens STAR-CCM+.
  • Experience with Altair finite element analysis (FEA) simulation products.
  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
