What believers are saying

  • Second-quarter 2026 revenue hit $8.4 billion, up 16.4%, with record managed business sales.
  • Southwest’s September 2026 lounges and 2027 Chase card create new loyalty monetization.
  • Rapid Rewards reached nearly 100 million members, giving Southwest a huge direct-demand engine.

What critics are saying

  • Southwest’s 2026 fare hikes and fees erase its low-cost identity by 2027.
  • 1,750 2025 layoffs plus 75 more in 2026 signal permanent cost pressure and churn.
  • Delta, United, and American already own premium travelers; Southwest lacks international scale.

What makes Southwest Airlines unique

  • Southwest’s 2026 transformation keeps Rapid Rewards, Chase, and domestic breadth tightly integrated.
  • Its point-to-point network still dominates mid-size U.S. markets like Austin, Baltimore, Nashville.
  • Assigned seating, lounges, and premium cards broaden revenue without abandoning Southwest’s recognizable brand.

A woman says someone hacked her Southwest account, canceled her family's trip, then did something she never expected with the credit.

A woman says someone hacked her Southwest account, canceled her family's trip, then did something she never expected with the credit. Asmir Pekmic Published: Sep 26, 2026 5:30 AM PDT A TikTok user claims an unauthorized individual hacked into her Southwest Airlines profile and redirected her family's travel credits. The user, known as @papilove13, shared that she was locked out of her account after the intruder changed her password, effectively preventing her from managing her own travel plans. Her video has since drawn thousands of views and a steady stream of advice in the comments. She says the breach led to the cancellation of flights for her family of four, forcing her to buy new tickets with her own money. The user claims the travel credit tied to those canceled tickets was then transferred and used to book a flight from Dallas to Orlando. Per her account, Southwest told her the credit had already been used and there was nothing left to reimburse. In the video, she names the man she believes is responsible and calls on Southwest to add two-factor authentication. Southwest has not publicly responded to her claims. Many viewers, however, quickly zeroed in on one feature in particular. Commenters think Southwest's credit transfer feature made this way too easy. Much of the comments section focused on how Southwest handles Transferable Flight Credits. The feature allows a Rapid Rewards member to move a flight credit to another member one time, and completing it only takes the recipient's full name, email, and Rapid Rewards number. Once the transfer is finalized, Southwest explicitly states that the action cannot be reversed. One commenter wrote that "tickets should not be transferable to any other person," and several others made the same point about the feature. Another viewer took a wider view of the problem, noting that "all airlines are struggling with fraud." Others simply asked how the intruder got past the login in the first place. Others urged her to go after the money through her bank and the police instead. Not everyone focused on the airline, as a number of commenters pushed her toward other ways to recover the money. Several suggested disputing the charge with her bank and filing a police report, while one told her to "submit a complaint with your state AG." In the comments section of her video, she explained that she filed an internet-fraud report with the FBI and initiated a dispute with her bank regarding the financial loss. She also mentioned plans to file a local police report to create an official record of the incident. However, the user claims Southwest sent her a link to reset her password only after the intruder had already changed it. The complaint lands at a rough time for Southwest, as the airline is already facing customer backlash over new fees on checked bags. Attack of the Fanboy is supported by its audience. Southwest Airlines raises fares 25%, adds fees as fuel costs climb

Southwest Airlines has raised fares seven times since February whilst adding new fees for services previously included free, yet demand remains strong. CEO Bob Jordan reported March business revenues rose 25% year-over-year, with the trend continuing through April and May. The airline now charges for extras like seat selection and extra legroom, aligning with industry competitors. Jordan stated there's been "no drop-off in demand" despite price increases, and suggested fare hikes may remain even if fuel costs decline. Industry analysts attribute the shift to rising operational costs, with jet fuel prices and labour expenses doubling. Spirit Airlines' market exit from 90 routes preceded a 14% average fare increase, removing competitive pricing pressure. A survey by Airlines for America found 72% of flyers satisfied with air travel, with price and schedule convenience ranking as top considerations.

JetBlue's new first-class to expand Pittsburgh's premium seat capacity.

JetBlue's new first-class to expand Pittsburgh's premium seat capacity. BlueFirst to offer multiple comfort, technology, priority perks to customers onboard Airbus aircraft serving PIT. By Evan Dougherty Published September 4, 2026 Read Time: 3 mins JetBlue Airways is adding a new first-class seating product to its award-winning onboard service that is anticipated to further increase the number of premium seats offered to travelers from Pittsburgh International Airport. JetBlue revealed its new domestic first-class seating product on Sept. 1, called BlueFirst, that will be added to all its Airbus A220-300, A320 and A321 aircraft currently equipped in all-economy layouts. JetBlue will add three rows of 12 first-class seats to its A220s and A320s and four rows of 16 first-class seats to its A321s. Routes and booking availability for BlueFirst will be announced later this year, and retrofits of all aircraft with the new seats are expected to finish by 2028. BlueFirst is expected to gradually roll out to JetBlue's A220s and A320s that operate the carrier's service from Pittsburgh to Boston, Fort Lauderdale and New York-JFK, which will add more premium capacity to three of PIT's 10 largest, most competitive markets, while still offering its popular high-value, low-cost economy seating options for price-conscious travelers. A JetBlue Airbus A220-300 lands at Pittsburgh International Airport from Boston on May 11, 2026. (Photo by Evan Dougherty) In addition to JetBlue, to Boston and New York City, network carriers Delta Air Lines (Boston, New York-JFK and New York-LaGuardia), American Airlines (New York-JFK and New York-LaGuardia) and United Airlines (Newark) also operate multiple daily nonstop flights, all on two-class aircraft, from Pittsburgh. To Fort Lauderdale, Southwest Airlines, which has transformed its low-cost business model to offer extra legroom seating and other premium perks, and ultra-low-cost carrier Allegiant Air, which will introduce first-class style seats on select aircraft in 2027, also offer nonstop service from PIT alongside JetBlue. As part of PIT's air service diversification strategy, the airport continually works with airlines to provide the right level of service for the Pittsburgh market, including a competitive mix of premium and budget options offered across numerous airlines for the region's travelers. Since the end of the COVID-19 pandemic, airlines have been investing in more premium seats and larger aircraft with more fare classes at PIT, in line with industry and consumer trends. JetBlue, which celebrated 20 years of service at PIT in June, has increased its presence in the Pittsburgh market. It resumed daily service to Fort Lauderdale and New York-JFK in 2025 to supplement its Boston service, which operates up to four times a day. Currently, JetBlue's scheduled seats at PIT are up 24 percent year-over-year, the largest capacity growth of all carriers at the airport. JetBlue's take on first-class. JetBlue CEO Joanna Geragthy noted that premium demand continues to rise, adding that domestic first-class has become easy to predict and it is time "for a fresh take" from JetBlue that can provide to travelers who want more comfort at good value. "Customers are increasingly looking for more premium experiences, and BlueFirst gives them an elevated experience that feels distinctly JetBlue, with thoughtful touches, caring service and great value. It's another way we're bringing our JetForward strategy to life and giving customers more reasons to choose JetBlue." Each BlueFirst seat will feature 13.3-inch in-flight entertainment screens, Bluetooth pairing for customers with headphones and USB-A, USB-C and 110V outlets to charge devices. Customers will also have access to JetBlue's free high-speed Wi-Fi onboard. (Courtesy of JetBlue) BlueFirst is the latest facet of JetBlue's JetForward strategy, which includes the recent opening of its BlueHouse premium lounges at New York-JFK and Boston, and further expanding its portfolio of premium products to create more opportunities for JetBlue customers to enjoy an elevated travel experience across its network. Additionally, BlueFirst serves as an extension from JetBlue's successful Mint lie-flat business class product, introduced in 2013, exclusive to select transcontinental and transatlantic routes. According to JetBlue, BlueFirst will introduce premium seating on routes not served with Mint. Citing its recent investments in premium travel, JetBlue earned top rank in Customer Satisfaction among First/Business Class Passengers in JD Power's 2026 North America Airline Satisfaction Study for the second consecutive year. In addition, JetBlue's BlueHouse lounge at New York-JFK was recently ranked first for "Best Airport Lounge" in Newsweek's 2026 Readers' Choice Awards.
